Introducing Jacob and the Northcity Ethic:

I came home to Boise, Idaho in November of 2003 (was here as a kid until age 12) to found Northcity Mortgage.

Prior to that, I spent years in Michigan learning the craft of Loan Originator in a brokerage. There, I focused mainly on first-time homebuyers using the FHA program. This gave me a great deal of experience with credit consultation, deal structuring and good hard work.

Here in Idaho I've shifted into a practice that is focused mainly on mortgage planning. How does this really differ from a "normal" mortgage business?

Basically, as a mortgage planner, I sort of "take off my sales hat" and really listen to the client. I observe spending habits, long term financial needs and immediate plans--THEN I make a diagnosis as to how to properly apply a home loan in that context.

My company was recently honored as a nominee for the local Better Business Bureau "Integrity Counts" Award. That means a lot to me because it reflects what my team and I have worked hard to build into our business. Naturally, this sometimes means that we make recommendations that don't include our services, and other times we have to give people tough news rather than a self serving sales pitch.

I don't want to come off as too prissy, though. We have fun, we work hard and we love what we do.
