About James

  • I was born and raised in Marion, South Carolina, where my life centered on God, academics, sports, Boy Scouts, and Band. After graduating from Marion High School in 1976, I joined the United States Army.

  • During my 30 years of honorable active-duty military service, I held numerous leadership positions and achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major. I earned many awards, including the Legion of Merit. I served in Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Kosovo, Bosnia, Slovenia, Poland, and Germany. I'm a member of the prestigious Sergeant Morales and Sergeant Audie Murphy Clubs. I was also inducted into the Order of Saint Barbara.

  • I hold a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland, and my military education includes many military science and leadership courses.

  • Janice, my wife of 27 years, and I enjoy spending time with our son, Daryl, and granddaughter, and other family and friends. My hobbies include riding my Harley Davidson motorcycle, golfing, skiing, playing cards, and traveling.
