Local Information

Burnsville is a rural setting in the Western Mountains of North Carolina, famous for the "Square" in the center of town.  The NuWray Inn is one of the landmarks on the square and was established in 1834.  From to late Fall many events are held in the grassy area in the center of the Square.  A great 4th of July celebration is held each year with a wagon train ending its journey by circling the local Square.  Singing events, fireworks, Old Timey Days, and the most famous of all, the Mt Mitchell Craft Fair held the first Friday and Saturday of August bring many people to this lovely little town.  Many artist reside in the valleys and off the beaten path producing their specialty items.  Penland School of the Crafts is near and this brings many permanent artists to the area.  Snow covered mountains in the Winter make the area look pristine.  Natural trout streams wind through the valleys and at the top of the mountains, the views are great!  Imagine living only 38 miles NE of Asheville (largest city in Western NC) in a rural setting but having all the amenities of city only 45 minutes away.  Great living here with caring people and a friendly atmosphere.
