Who Is Jason Iacovelli?
I grew up in the small town of Roxbury, NY in the Catskills. Being the son of a 20 year Army Veteran, I had the opportunity to see and experience other parts of the world. This experience drove me to leave this small town after high school in search of something bigger. After attending college, I got a job as an assistant loan officer with a mortgage broker out of Towson, MD. I learned the basics but still felt there was much more to helping people than what I was getting from this company. So I left that position to take a loan officer job in Boston for a couple of years.
After two years in Boston, I knew I wanted to come back home to New York. I decided that if I was going to learn everything I could about the mortgage industry, I would need to go to work directly for the companies that make the rules on lending. While living down state in New Rochelle, I held an Account Manager position with Argent Mortgage Company where, I don't mind saying, I was one of the top Account Managers in the company. Closing literally thousands of loans all over Alabama.
From there I was promoted to a Regional Production Manager position where I managed a team of 30 people including account managers, funders and underwriters. After marrying my high school sweetheart (I know it's cliche) in 2003, my wife Alice (seen here) and I decided we wanted to return to our roots in upstate New York. I took a position for a short while with Washington Mutual and then with Countrywide, on the wholesale side. Everyone knows these are two of the biggest lending institutions in the country. You can really learn a lot and you can really learn their weaknesses in a very short time with them. I always knew I'd return to helping the 'average' family. Like I always say, "My parents didn't have a lot growing up. If someone could've showed them how to save $100 per month, it would've meant the world to my family."
I decided I had learned everything I needed to truly help average families to buy their dream homes and to help homeowners get out of trouble with their credit card and other debts. Unfortunately, the one thing I did learn was that there isn't enough education for the average person when it comes to buying a house. They go to the bank and get turned down and don't know what to do, what to expect or what type of loan best suits them. It's really a shame.
Having been a long time friend of Bruce Katz, president of Centennial Mortgage, and knowing what a great name the company has built for itself over the years. I figured it was a perfect fit. Having lived in Roxbury, Newburgh, and Kingston at different points in my life, I knew I needed to work for a company as dedicated to helping our communities as I am.
After all these travels, Alice and I now reside back in my small town of Roxbury with our two cats, Annie and Turtle, where Alice works at the local library and I'm currently serving as Treasurer on the board of Shephard Hills Golf Club, a historic and quaint 9 hole course nestled on the moutainside in Roxbury.

I suppose this is where I'm supposed to say things like,

100% Financing with 6% seller's concession, Home Equity Lines Of Credit, FHA, Cash Out Refi's with Unlimited Cash, Good and Bad Credit, and some other junk like that, right?
Sure I do those things but there's more to it than just a list of products, isn't there? You're probably hard pressed to find anyone on here who doesn't have access to the same mortgage products. That's the truth. It goes so much deeper than that.
I like to pride myself on educating the customer. Making sure that there isn't an ounce of doubt or confusion in their minds. Honesty and integrity go a long way. From what I've seen, a lot of so-called loan officers out there jumped into this business during the "refi-boom" because they thought it would be "easy money" and companies needed warm bodies in the seats.
Now that the boom is over, these guys are floundering. They've gone from being order takers who pick up the phone and blurt out the lowest rate to trying now to pass themselves off as experts. Experts with only a couple years in the business and no idea how to properly handle and structure loans and no clue what to do if you don't have a 700 fico and 25% down. It's ridiculous.
I've been working in mortgages for over 12 years now and I can say I still don't know everything but I do know service and I do know that it's about more than just making a buck. It's about doing what's right for someone, and doing what's best for them. And educating the client on how the whole process works so everyone will be comfortable and happy from application to closing and for the rest of their lives.
When I'm not helping someone buy a house or using my debt planning software and TPA to get someone debt free (you can see that here), I also run a mortgage mastermind group for loan officers all over the country. We discuss various marketing strategies, client retention and follow up plans and enough loan scenarios to make your head spin. The mastermind group mentality turns clients from just working with 1 loan officer to literally accessing 30 people to help them accomplish their goals. It's also great to have the opportunity to work with a newer guy (or gal) who really wants to learn this business, helping them to achieve their career goals. This probably sounds self-righteous but believe me, I am sincere with this.
