About Us:
We are home to one of the highest number of historic architectual designed homes in Alabama. A city that onced boasted over 30,000 residents that is now coming back alive and re-growing through tourism, plays, hunting, and historic scenery We are still small and quaint having only about 3,000 residents with new people arriving daily to want to slow down - put a rocker on the front porch - turn off the ole TV and see how it feels to get to know your neighbors and relax after a long day at work!. Our area is historic homes or buildings calling out for renovators for some homes and others just need someone to appreciate the novation! In the last two years people have moved here from Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Arizona, Texas, Virginia and Belize (etc).. Our lives are slower here but we are less than an hour from major shopping and numerous universities. We have a growing venue in Tourism - which expands with each new transplantee coming here. Look at our beautiful town on our chamber site usacoc.com or our tourism site unionspringsalabama.com
One of our newest "transplants" came here from Virginia, bought one of our restored Painted Lady Victorian homes. He then opened an Antique store which he named "Somewhere in Time Antiques" . That pretty much sums up our attitude of a slower life - had my many before the turn of the century. When its comes to the pleasures of the world -- Come on by for some Southern Hospitality and some "sweet tea" -- its really about knowing your neighbor. Get up in the mornings and walk our streets among the historic downtown buildings -- join us -- share your vision of growth for a town with so much history!

My husband and I are both prior Air Force and I have practiced as an Registered Nurse over 15 years, but currently spend all my time inviting people to consider making their home in Union Springs.

That's right!
We can use the acroynm USA for our home town. Union(U) Springs(S) Alabama (A) , not many towns in the country can do that. Hunting, plays, historical home tours, etc are our greatest assets. Look at our chamber site (usacoc.com) to find more about our demographics, businesses, schools, etc.
Union Springs, the county seat of Bullock County, was founded in 1835 and in 1844 was incorporated by the State of Alabama Legislature.
The original inhabitants of the area were the Creek Indians and they held lands until treaties in the early 1800s brought an influx of settlers from the Carolinas and Georgia. In 1866, the Alabama Legislature created Bullock County from portions of Pike, Macon, Barbour and Montgomery counties. The county is home to the oldest public garden in the United States. Union Springs is known as "the Bird Dog Field Trial Capital of the World" and is home to many historic sites, beautiful old homes and commercial buildings. Downtown Union Springs lists 47 buildings on the National Historic Register.
We invite you to take a tour of our city. Of special interest is the Central Business District consisting of 45 commercial and government buildings which were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Some of the notable attractions in the district are: Bullock County Courthouse, built in 1871. It is the only Second Empire style courthouse in Alabama and was patterned after the Executive Building in Washington, D.C.; Log Cabin Museum and Confederate Cemetery, the Cabin was built in 1851 and is authentically finished; Bullock County Jail-Museum, built in 1897 by Pauley Jail Company, this Victorian Gothic style building has an original trap door which was used for hangings.
The Bullock County Tourism Council web site provides a virtual tour of many of these homes and buildings. Visit ww.unionspringsalabama.com/historicbuildingtour.html.
The Wehle Nature Center is open on Saturdays, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This conservation center is located in Midway a mere 15 drive from the Union Sprigns.
