Longboat Key is a beautiful barrier Island located off the west central coast of Florida in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. It stretches for twelve miles between the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota. Though many tourists from the world over come to Longboat Key each year, it is primarily a private island. According to 2007 census estimates, Longboat Key had an estimated population of 7,414 permanent residents. This number is usually higher during the tourist season. Longboat Key is ideally situated near Sarasota offering residents seclusion and privacy coupled with access to anything they could need right across the bridge. Residents of Longboat Key enjoy miles of white sand beaches where they can soak up the warm Central Florida sun, collect shells or just watch the stunning sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico. With an average of 256 sunny days per year, Longboat Key is a paradise for those with active lifestyles.
