Longboat Key is a beautiful barrier Island located off the west central coast of Florida in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. It stretches for twelve miles between the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota. Though many tourists from the world over come to Longboat Key each year, it is primarily a private island. According to 2007 census estimates, Longboat Key had an estimated population of 7,414 permanent residents. This number is usually higher during the tourist season.
