About My Shawnee KS Real Estate Services

Growing up in rural Iowa, I learned the value of hard work, family, and friends.  I will always be grateful for the lessons learned there.  I guess I've been in real estate all my life.  I can remember my grandfather buying houses, fixing them up and renting or selling them.  We grandkids got in on the "fun" of picking up nails, cleaning, or otherwise helping by staying out of the way.   In college my husband worked as a builder with his father and earned our way through college.  Again, I got to help do the final clean up, check off the final punch list, and get the property ready to turn over.  I didn't know how much I was learning about house construction at the time.  My husband and I always had a project going and again I was learning about construction and what makes a house a well constructed property. 

I worked hard in college and studied marketing and finance--lessons that serve me well in serving my clients.  I put together an Individualized Marketing Strategy for each of listings.  Recognizing that most buyers begin their home search on the internet, I became E-pro certified so that I could keep up with all the changes on the internet.   In order to effectively market a listing and in addition to regular MLS exposure, I use enhanced listings on realtor.com, KWLS, Point2AgentNLS, as well as an individual property web page.  I admit it keeps me hopping to embrace the latest technology, but I have determined that's what it takes to best serve my clients. 

Buying and selling real estate, even under the best of circumstances, is stressful.  Many times life changes that are stressful themselves are often pushing the need for the real estate transaction.  I take pride in being able to help people reduce the stress in their transaction.  Anticipating possible "glitches" and regular communication with all of the parties involved help reduce the stresses inherent in a transaction.  My job's about helping you make good decisions as we work toward accomplishing your goals. 

Serving the Kansas City Real Estate Market

I specialize in the Kansas City metro area real estate, most particularly in Johnson County real estate, Shawnee real estate, and Overland Park, Kansas real estate.  As a long time Johnson County resident,  I am familiar with the area and can speak to the excellence of the schools and services available here.  My sons graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest and continue to make their homes in the area. 

I specialize in helping people with their real estate transactions.  I love first time home buyers.  As a former teacher, working with first time home buyers gives me an opportunity to continue to teach.  If I can help them get into a home that fits their needs and budget, we can begin the process of building wealth for them.  For most people their home is the cornerstone of their financial investments.  Making the right first home decision can go a long way toward helping them build a strong financial future.  Making the wrong choice may torpedo them in the wrong direction.  As I think back on some of the first time home buyers I have worked with, I especially enjoyed working with Jody.  Jody was someone who had made a lot of wrong decisions early in her life, but made a right decision to turn things around.  She had made so many positive changes in her life when I met her.  We found her a cute little house that fit her budget, her needs, and she and her daughter moved in.  It was a joy to help her achieve her goals.  Another first time home buying couple that I particularly enjoyed were Chester and Eileen.  Chester and Eileen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly after they moved into their first home.  They only regretted that they had waited so long. 

Another group that I particularly enjoy working with are seniors.  Many times seniors are making decisions to sell because of health reasons, death of a spouse, or some other life event that is forcing a decision they didn't want.  I find that I am able to empathize with the losses they are feeling and help them move to the next stage of their life.  I actively work with Johnson County Widow and Widowers group and can often help in ways unrelated to real estate, as well as serve their real estate needs. 

I have worked with a lot of investors and investment property and I am able to help them acquire property that makes sense from an investment point of view and eliminate the others.  Investing in Kansas City real estate can be a strong wealth builder if you know what you're doing.  I have enjoyed working with local investors, as well as out of the area investors who are attracted to our relative affordable homes.   

In summary, I have a broad range of experience in new construction, resale, investment property, and land.  I've worked with property with septic systems and wells, as well as property in suburbia and the urban core.  More importantly, I want to put my knowledge to work for my clients.  They are the most important part of the equation.

Thinking of trying to sell our home by yourself to save some money"  I tried to sell my property on my own for several weeks thinking I could save paying an agent a commission.  However, I found out the advertising was expensive and I always had to be available to show the home and never knew if the person coming to view my home was really qualified.
