Waukesha County has a quality of life that is unparalleled. It's proximately to Milwaukee County and other outlying counties makes it a pleasant commute for work. Waukesha County is unique in the fact that it has many lakes and parks that offer a good time for anyone to enjoy. The history that exists in Waukesha County is truly amazing.

The City of Waukesha was originally occupied by the Pottawatomie Indians until settled by early Americans. The City was always well renowned for the quality of water it had. Many believe the water had many medicinal remedies. Spring City as Waukeshawas originally known as had many spa and natural springs. The Springs were abundant. Many such as Bethesda,Roxo, Horeb, Arcadian, White rock, and more are legendary. Many are gone now but there are still remnants of old spring houses.

The City of Waukesha was the original home of the White rock bottling company. The company has since moved but in the early days the water in Waukesha was bottled by the White rock bottling company and sent all over the globe. An interesting bit of trivia ia that the modern day version and concept of Santa Claus was to be a product of the Coca Cola comoany. In fact it was the original thought of the White rock bottling company and was later adopted by the Coca Cola company.

The City of Waukesha is also the birth place and early childhood home of Les Paul. Les Paul changed the whole concept of music by inventing the electric guitar. With out Les Paul's invention music would not have turned out some of the greats as ity has today. The Les Paul museum in Milwaukee houses many original artifacts that were conceived by Les Paul. This was a true genius and is still actively playing today in his club in New York. He currently resides in New Jersey. Many of his works can be known as Gibson Les Paul customs, but his work is a direct reflection in all electric guitars. He is also credited with many original sound recording devices as well.

Waukesha and the county seat of Waukesha County, Wisconsin is in the Upper Midwest regeion of the United States. As of the 2000 census, Waukesha had a total polpulation of 64,826, and was the largest community in the county. The city is located adjacent to the Town of Waukesha . Milwaukee County is due east of Waukesha County.

In 2006, Money magazine ranked Waukesha 36th on the list of the "100 Best Places To Live",in the United States. In 2007 America's Promise ranked Waukesha one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People" in the United States.

By 1846 the area incorporated as the villiage of Prairieville. On February 8,1847, the villiage changed it's name to Waukesha and in 1896, incorporated as a city. Over the years, many believed, incorrectly, that the origin of the name of the city was an Algonquin word meaning "fox" or "little foxes," thought it is actually an Anglicization of the Ojibwe proper name Waagoshag or the Potawatomi name Wau-tsha. Wau-tsha(sometimes written as Wauk-tsha or Wauke-tsha) was the leader of the local tribe at the time of the first European settlement of the area. This is confirmed by accounts of Increase Lapham, an early settler and historian of the region. According to Lapham, the word for "fox" was pishtaka. Cutler also told visitors about Wau-tsha, who was described as "tall and athletic, proud in his bearing, dignified and friendly."

Waukesha was once known for it's extremely clean and good-tasting spring water and was called  a " spa town." This earned the city the nicknames, "Spring City," and "Saratoga of the West."

According to author Kristine Adams Wendt, in 1868 "colonel Richard Dunbar, a sufferer of daibetes, changed upon the medicinal properties of what he jater named the Bethesda Spring while viewing a parcel recently purchased by his sister. Testimonials found a in Dunbar brochure of 1873 proclaimed the miraculous benefits of Bethesda Mineral Water for persons suffering from all manner of urinary tract and bladder problems, diabetes,Bright's disease, torpid livere, indigestion, chronic diarrhea, dropsy and "female weaknesses"among others. Wendt reports that by 1872, "area newspapers carriend amounts of a cummunity ill equiped to handle it's new popularity among the suffering multitudes. The semi-weekly Wisconsin(MIlwaukee) of July 31,1872, reported that fully 500 visitors are quartered in hotels and scattered in private rooms here, seeking benefit from the marvelous waters.......

Among those visitors was Abraham Lincoln's widow, Mary Todd Lincoln. She visited Waukesha in the summere of 1872, still mourning the death of her son Tad the previuos year. The former first lady stayed at the Hubbard boarding house and according to contemporay accounts, "was all in black, with full skirt to the dress which was very long... Poor Mrs. Lincoln carries a heavy heart, and she is much of the times in tears.

The "healing waters" were so valued that a secret pipeline was dug between the city of Chicago so that they could be enjoyed by visitors to the 1893 Columbian Exposition. This is absolutelu ridiculous statement. Waukesha is 90 miles NNW of Chicago and building a secret pipeline without many booster pumps is simply immpossible! IT Appears an attempt was made to build a secret pipeline out of the city limits to steal spring water by a chicaagoan, but aroused citizens drove off the workers as soon as they got off the train.

Richard W. Sears, founder of Sears and Roebuck, may have been attracted to Waukesha by the waters. In failing health, Sears retired from business in 1908, according to The New York Times,"spent his time on his great farm near Waukesha." In 1914, Sears died in Waukesha of Bright's disease leaving an estate estimated at $20 milliom.

Over the years, the natural springs have been spoiled by pollution and a number gone dry.

PROJECT NIKE and THE COLD WAR

Many may not know it but during the times of the cold war the City of Waukesha played a major role in the defense of the United States. During the Cold WarWaukesha County hosted three NIke Missile batteries, locate in the city of Waukesha and nearby Muskego and Lannnon. In the Citof Waukesha the US Army and later the Wisconsin national Guard operated the command andcontrol center from 1956 to 1970 at what is now Hillcrest Park on Davidson Road. The missile pits existed near the corner of Cleveland avenue ans HWY 164-first holding Ajax missiles with conventional warheads and later the nuclear equipped Hercules  warhead The HUrcules provided a similar nucleur capability as that of the atobic bomb dropped on Nagasaki in World War II. The Midwest Chapter of the Cold War Muuem has promoted the preservation of the Hillcrett Park site as a local Cold War musuem, honoring Cold War veterans, honoring Cold War veterans and commemorating America's longest and costliest conflict

 Geography

The City shares borders with the City of Brookfield,Towm of Brookfield,Genesse,New Berlin,City of Pewaukee,Village of Pewaukee,Town of Pewaukee,Town Of Delafield, and Town of Pewaukee.

We enjoyed working with Lisa and appreciated all she did for us. We ran into so many issues that needed to be worked out with the seller, their agent and our lender who were just impossible and frustrating to deal with. Lisa found away to not only negotiate but demanded a better deal for us. How she could remain so positive and upbeat and get us to relax was amazing.   I am convinced her experience worked in out favor, as I saw the other agent just dumbfounded when Lisa spoke.  We even received an additional $250 cash at closing for her efforts.  I would definitely recommend Lisa to anyone looking for a realtor. – Erika and Jason Holmes - Watertown
