Mike Bates
Mike obtained his realtor-associate license in 1994. Originally a Certified Public Accountant, while working as the controller of a property development company he gained knowledge about Hawaii real estate. Since 2000 he's concentrated on real estate.
Mike's lived in Hawaii since 1980. He's lived primarily on Oahu, also on the Big Island, Maui and Molokai.
Personal: Triathlete, completed 11 Ironman triathlons through 2008. He earned his Private Pilot and Instrument Rated Pilot (single engine) licenses. Mike's current hobby is surfing.

My husband and I really enjoyed working with Mike, I think the main reason is because unlike many other realtors, Mike is not a real talker, he is a real listener. Where most realtors really try to 'sell' you a house, Mike really tried to find you the right house.

Working with Mike was a fantastic experience. This was our first time buying a house, and it was very comforting to know that Mike was with us every step of the way. Mike took care of everything for us, and we mean everything.
Mike was very creative in the ways he found houses available for sale: He subscribed to automated notification systems, he posted ads on the internet and he worked his connections.
Mike made sure he understood what kind of house we were looking for, and he always let us know when he found something he thought would be a good fit for us.
We didn't have to worry about making sure we followed the rules and filled out the right paperwork. Mike would take care of that for us. He explained in as much detail as we asked for what the paperwork was about, and all we had to do was sign.
Because Mike took care of the practical details, we could focus on looking at houses and see how we felt about each one. One day we found a house that just felt like our dream home as soon as we stepped in through the door. With Mike's help, we bought it and it's now our home.
Mike would always make sure we met wherever and whenever it was most convenient for us. He came to our workplace during lunch breaks if that's what we asked for, and he came to our apartment at night if we preferred that. And when he did, he brought baked goods his girlfriend had made the same day.
Mike would never make us wait. Even though he often had to drive across the island to look at a house with us, he would always beat us to it and he'd be waiting for us when we arrived.
After we bought our house, Mike brought his toolbox over before we even moved in and went to work on leaky faucets and replaced old spouts with brand new ones he had bought for us. A confident handyman as well as a trustworthy realtor, Mike gave us tips on how to fix and maintain everything we asked about.
The most intimidating part of the buying experience was deciding how much money we would be willing to pay for a certain house and then trying to figure out a way to get the seller to agree to that price. We always asked for Mike's advice and he never hesitated. Because of his experience, he knew what the seller was trying to do, he knew what the house was really worth and he knew whether maybe we had a better chance finding our dream home somewhere else. But he was very careful not to make a decision for us. He gave us his advice and explained his reasoning, and after that it was always easy for us to make a decision.
Buying a home can be an intimidating process. But working with a real estate agent like Mike made it an exciting experience, which is how it should be. We definitely would recommend Mike to anyone looking for their dream home. Thank you for everything, Mike!
