Real Estate for Real People
One of the biggest compliments I received after meeting someone for the first time was, "You are regular folk." I am most definitely "regular folk". The only difference is that I have been trained in real estate marketing, sales, and contract negotiation.
I live in Tate County in Northwest Mississippi and specialize in Desoto and Tate county real estate. When I'm not working, I enjoy vegetable gardening, flower gardening and my spoiled, rotten dogs. I love what I do and would appreciate the opportunity to work with you!

Areas of Expertise
I am an Assoc. Broker with Bob Leigh & Assoc., LLC in Northwest Mississippi and hold the certification of Graduate, Realtor Institute (GRI).

GRI is additional education - above and beyond- what is required to obtain a real estate license. The extra effort I took in obtaining this designation is worth it because my clients benefit from this extra knowledge.
I work in the Northwest Mississippi counties of Desoto, Tate, Marshall, and Panola. My expertise includes marketing homes and contract negotiation. Another major part of my business is first-time homebuyers and HUD/bank-owned homes. FOR INFORMATION ON HUD HOMES IN MS, CLICK HERE>>>
Before I obtained my license in Mississippi, I worked for a national retailer in their Commercial Property Division. It was a great learning experience and has helped me to have a more well-rounded knowledge of different aspects of a real estate transaction.
I hold two other real estate designations: Residential Construction Certified and Certified New Home Specialist.
The information I learned while studying for these designations have helped me to better understand the challanges that builders face and how to help buyers through the process of purchasing a new construction home, either custom or spec.
Area Information
For the past two decades, Desoto County has experienced a tremendous rate of growth. It is estimated that an average of 10 families per day move to this northwest Mississippi county, immediately south of the state line from Memphis, TN. Desoto County is the fastest growing county in Mississippi and the 37th in the nation. In 2007, the county administrator stated that he believed the county's population could reach 250,000 by 2030.

Hernando is the county seat of Desoto County. It was incorporated in 1837, and as its name suggests, was named after the famed Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, who passed through the area during his quest for gold. Visitiors to the Historic DeSoto Museum can find all sorts of interesting history of the region.
In 2007, the population of Hernando was estimated to be around 13,700 - double of what it was 6 years ago. Located just 12 miles south of Memphis, TN, Hernando is an easy commute for those who work in the larger city. Those attracted to Hernando include a diverse mix of working professionals, retirees and young families-all with an exceptional appreciation of the town's quality of life. If you are passing through Hernando, be sure to visit the Velvet Cream on Highway 51 for some of the best ice cream or milkshakes around!
A key reason so many new families are drawn to the Hernando area is the county's excellent school system. In 2006, Desoto County students surpassed state scores in every category and subject area, and accounted for the largest population of gifted students in the state. For extensive information on Desoto County Schools visit their website HERE.
Desoto County offers a mix of suburban and rural housing. Everything from starter homes to million-dollar retreats; from wooded acreage and farmland to lake-front properties.
In addition to Hernando, other Desoto County cities include: Southaven, Olive Branch, Horn Lake, and Walls.
HISTORIC TATE COUNTY COURTHOUSE
Tate County is located immediately south of Desoto County in northwest Mississippi and is only 30 minutes south of Memphis, TN. It was formed in 1873 from parts of Desoto, Marshall and Tunica counties. There are two incorporated cities in Tate County: Coldwater and Senatobia. Coldwater was incorporated in 1872 and has a population of 1,674 according to the 2000 census. The Town of Coldwater was physically moved in 1942 due to the construction of Arkabutla Dam. Senatobia, the county seat, was incorporated in 1860 and has a population of 6,682. The two cities are situated approximately nine miles apart and have easy access to Interstate 55.
If you love old buildings, beautiful sweeping staircases, real wooden beams, and hardwood floors - you need to visit the Tate County Courthouse (pictured above). Read a news story about the renovation and museum HERE.
Unlike many Mississippi counites, Senatobia has a municipal school district which is separate from the Tate County Schools. The 2007 enrollment was 1,800 students in the city school district with more growth expected. The schools of the district has been honored with high levels of accreditation and awards. Senatobia High School is one of only four Blue Ribbon Schools in the state. You can visit the Senatobia School District online>>>CLICK HERE.
The Tate County Schol District maintains 3 high schools, 3 elementary schools and 1 middle school. Two of the high schools (Independence and Strayhorn) were just recently built in response to an influx of new students. Tate County Schools is striving to offer students the best possible education to prepare them for their next step in life-whether that step is college or a chosen career. Even though public education in Tate County is generally considered as excellent, parents also have the choice to send their children to a private school. Magnolia Heights School has been serving students of Tate and surrounding counties since the 1970s. Magnolia Heights has a current enrollement of 700 and is one of the first five schools in the state to be accredited by both SACS and SAIS.
In addition to the various industries and organizations, Tate County is home to The Baddour Center. This center is a residential community for adults with mild and moderate mental retardation. It is a 120-acre campus that features group homes, apartments, a clinic, a chapel, and campus life building. The Baddour Garden Center features seasonal plants grown and cared for by residents and a complete line of garden products. This retail garden center is open to the public.
Main Building at NWCC
Tate County is home for the main campus of the Northwest Mississippi Community College. It serves an 11-county district and has a thriving satellite campus in Desoto County. More than 1,000 full-time students live in nine residence halls on the Senatobia campus. NWCC partners with The University of Mississippi to provide a full-accredited associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs. For more information visit the 2+2 Desoto Center.
Tate County is decidely more rural than Desoto County and the leisure activities reflect its laid-back style. One of the area attractions is the Northwest Multipurpose Livestock Arena. It is the site for events including rodeos, horse shows, livestock shows, barrle races, clinics and county 4-H events. The arena is home base of NWCC inter-collegiate men's and women's rodeo team. The popular BULL-A-RAMA championship bull riding competion is traditionally held each fall.
Senatobia's annual Mayfair takes place the second Saturday in May, and includes a full day of activities in and around Gabbert Park. If you enjoy fishing, then Northwest Mississippi is the place for you! Arkabutla Lake - rated as one of the top five crappie fishing locations in the U.S. - is located in both Desoto and Tate counties. Arkabutla is a state park that features a 33,400-acre lake. It offer opportunity for hunting, hiking, biking, fishing, boating, skiing, camping, swimming, wildlife observation and geocaching. Because Arkabutla Lake has also been called the "windiest lake between Lake Michigan and the Gulf", there is a big sailing contingent here.
