This year, my real estate license celebrates its 33rd birthday. And it's been a wonderful ride.
My market area, the Washington, DC metropolitan area, has some of the most interesting homes in the country, many with histories that include a president sleeping there or a hiding room from the Underground Railroad days. And I've had the opportunity to work with some wonderful buyers and sellers who are as interesting as the homes they purchase and sell.
My background? I graduated from Hunter College in New York with a double major in Flute and Political Science and studied flute with Julius Baker, Harold Bennett, and Jean-Pierre Rampal. My love is Baroque chamber music, and I've played with several local professional groups, including the Washington Bach Consort.
Before going into real estate, I was the Associate Director of Ralph Nader's Aviation Consumer Action Project and then served as a senior staffer at the old Civil Aeronautics Board, working on the regulations covering airline overbooking, lost luggage and transportation for disabled people. And most of these rules survived airline deregulation - they were useful enough to remain on the books.
During my time working for Nader, I was appointed as a consumer representative on several US Delegations that negotiated aviation treaties with foreign governments including the Netherlands, Italy, France, Mexico. And watching our professionals at the State Department resolve huge issues has helped me learn to work out what can seem like even bigger issues that home buyers and sellers may have during their real estate transactions.
Writing is also something I love to do, and in 2007 I published The Irreverent Guide to Real Estate, and am currently working on a second edition. And I"ve written for the Washington Post's "Where We Live" section, including my favorites about the honeymooning raccoons who invaded my attic and another about restoring my house.
I live in the District of Columbia in This Old House near Rock Creek Park. My housemate is an energetic dog - Willie the Labradoodle. It seems like some part of my house has been under renovation since I bought the place. I am the Secretary of the Crestwood Citizens'Association.

During my 30-years in real estate, I have tried to learn a new neighborhood each month, and by now, I know the territory.
People relocating to the nation's capital are often floored by housing prices, and in the popular close-in neighboroods, they can be high. At the same time, there are many wonderful communities, both in the city and in the close-in suburbs where I've found perfect homes for clients in all price ranges.
And when the time comes to make your move, please contact me. I'd be honored to help.

Testimonials for Patricia Kennedy
I chose Patricia Kennedy as my buyer broker when I set out to buy a new condo. She was great. She found good places, pointed out the pluses and minuses of each, and worked with the other agent, the bankers and everyone else very effectively. She helped me get a great price, lower than comps, plus the seller paid most settlement costs that I expected to pay. There were issues with the seller, a trust, but she kept everything smooth and easy. Settlement was quick and easy, something it has not always been in the past. I would definitely use her again.

Pat was wonderful to work with. She listened carefully to our wants and needs, then we bought a house she found that was nothing like what we described. It's totally fabulous, and we thank Pat every day we're here!
