Get to Know Marty Sorrentino

Enjoying what you do is the first step to becoming a successful real estate agent.  My passion for working with people and the excitement of selling all types of homes is what keeps me motivated.  There is no greater feeling than watching the faces of a young couple at a closing table as the keys to their new home are passed across the table from the former owners.

When working with my homeowners, there is a wonderful feeling of knowing you represented your client and put their needs and priorities before all others.  Finding the next owner to take over the care of their home is very rewarding and I truly believe sellers love selling their homes to others who see the same value as they did.

Brokers must take themselves out of the equation and always remember...somebody wants to sell...and someone wants to buy...make the experience as pleasureable for all parties....you will be rewarded.

Marty: I just wanted to thank you for assisting my family with the sale of our parent’s home. Your generous gift was quite a surprise, not at all expected, but only natural from someone like you! From our first meeting with Paul I have felt so comfortable with you and the way in which you handled all of the situations we have encountered over the past eight months (and there were MANY). Your professional yet personal way got me through many a tough day and I truly appreciate it. I cannot thank you enough for today at the closing. You were right there at the crisis handling it the only way you seem to know how, THE BEST WAY. I have heard people say that real estate agents just come to get their check and run, but that is not true about you. Thanks for being so good to me and my family, I look forward to working with you in the future. Sincerely, Ursula 

My name is Kate Caporusso. My husband and I recently purchased our first home with the help of Marty Sorrentino who acted as our buyer’s broker. We began our search insisting that we did not need any help in this endeavor. We were two smart educated adults who were perfectly capable of making this purchase without input. Therefore, saw no need for a buyer broker. However, after having lived through this incredibly stressful experience I would like to take this opportunity to explain why I believe that no one should embark on the adventure of buying a home without the help of a trained professional and why we believe that Marty should be your buyer broker. My husband and I met Marty at a house on Commonwealth Avenue in Merrick. Marty pulled up in a white Lincoln Towncar, windows down, music playing and introduced himself. He explained that he was not in fact, the listing agent on the house that we had called about, but the listing agent was out of town and Marty had heard our messages in his office and decided to help us out. We, who had been so reluctant to include anyone in our search for our first home, had, before we knew it, seen several houses with Marty. At each house, my husband and I became the students and Marty was the teacher. It never seemed like he was lecturing us as he gave us all of the information about any given property. We learned that Marty had spent time as a bank appraiser of homes. During that experience he gained invaluable knowledge that he was more than willing to share with us to help us make an informed decision. As our search progressed, my husband and I received an education about foundations, electrical work, siding, brickwork and plumbing and ultimately making our own decisions equipped with all of the knowledge we had acquired from our lessons with Marty. Early in our search, my husband and I jumped on a home that, in retrospect I can tell you Marty did not think was a good investment. But, he never let on. He took us back to the house on several occasions and encouraged us to bring whoever we wanted to help us make a decision. As newlyweds, we were living in my parent’s basement and itching to get out. While Marty understood this, he did his best to make sure that our circumstances did not drive our decision making and as a result we made the right decision for us and passed on the house. But the time was not wasted. We learned so much going through the process of truly inspecting a house that we were that much more prepared for the next house. Over the next six months Michael, Marty and I saw every house that was on the market in Merrick. Even when there were no new houses to see Marty would call and check in. He humored us when, in frustration of having exhausted the market in Merrick we tried to take our modest budget on the road to Rockville Center. He never said “no.” So, Michael, Marty and I spent the day “inspecting” houses in our price range in Rockville Center. At the end of the day Michael and I concluded that we could get more for our money in Merrick. I saw a small glimpse of pride in Marty’s eyes and he knew he had trained us well and we could now be considered educated consumers. With that education you will also learn Marty-isms. “A good set of bones” refers to a well-built home. “Good dirt” is a euphemism for a good neighborhood. You will also learn that Marty likes his coffee with half-and-half but his doctor wants him to cut down on carbs. You will hear about his family and suddenly find one day that you have become a part of it. He will share meals with you and call just to see how you are doing. He “has a guy” for every task you might need and they prove to be as honest and reliable as he is. In all of the negotiations he took part in on our behalf he demonstrated that he was an honest man of amazing character. He never sunk to the level of other people we ran into through the course of our travels and he always did the right thing by us and those around him. As I said, my husband and I were fortunate to purchase a beautiful home in Merrick Woods with the help of Marty. It is an old tudor with a good set of bones on a great piece of dirt. I truly believe this purchase would not have been possible if we worked with any other agent. Marty taught us to see everything and he negotiated for us cautiously. He has patience and good instincts. Two qualities my husband and I are still working on. In the three months that we have owned our house I still call Marty for help, advice and when “I need a guy”. He continues to negotiate on our behalf and make sure we are getting the best deal whether it is with the contractor, the electrician or the floor guy. We consider him to be a wonderful, resourceful friend. Marty taught us how to buy a house and make it a home and for that we will forever be grateful. I know you will enjoy the same experience with him as he will enrich your lives as he has ours. Sincerely, Michael & Kate Caporusso
