it's an office....NO....no pets.... work from home is you don't want to leave your pet.... the place will smell like a kennel.... the barking will be absurd....and I can think of many other reasons for NOT bringing a dog to work....

In my rural area that might be acceptable. But in an office of 30 people you might have someone that is afraid of dogs or allergic. That wouldn't be a good thing. I do have to qualify my answer by saying that no office in my area has anywhere close to 30 people. I wouldn't do it in an office that big. Also you have to think of clients that might not like dogs or are allergic. Plus you have to consider how your dog might react to being around that many people.

I have worked at several places where bringing your dog is acceptable. I managed a mountaineering shop for several years and my dog went to work with me each day. That was cool, but I was dealing with people that loved the outdoors and it was a different demographic.

My office is larger than 30 agents --- I see lots of things but as Susan Emo likes to say --- I keep my eyes on my own paper and pay no attention to what others do.

I am allergic to dogs...  This being said.  No they should no be in stores, restaurants, or the work place.  Everything has become so dog friendly- it is horrible for me to go anywhere...

Nobody wants smokers- (I am not a smoker.)  But to me this falls under the same category...  Next thing you know people will start bringing cats everywhere too...

Service dogs should ba allowed everywhere though!

Depends on the person and the dog.  I had one agent bringing dogs who were awful. I had to nix it. But we had a recue there for quite some time. She was super sweet. She lives with me now.

How about allergies to dogs. Co-workers or clients coming into the office may be allergic so I would keep dogs at home. But my dog at home works with me everyday so I have a double standard on this issue.

Good  morning Debbie. There are some folks that do not believe that animals belong in an office setting. It depends upon the brokerage and how tolerant they are.

There is a proper time and place to introduce your pet to friends and coworkers. At the office is not the correct place no matter how cute or well behaved you believe your pet is.

What's the policy of the brokerage? If I had to make that policy, and remember I love dogs, I would say keep it a work environment. Next thing, someone can't find a babysitter, and they bring the kids. For those agents who go to that office to work, it would all be a distraction especially if they were meeting clients. Having said that, if you have a private office, that might be a different thing.

I know that many software companies in Silicon Valley in California as well as in the Greater Toronto Area have allowed employees, contractors, contingent workers etc. to bring dogs to work.

I have not seen any real estate brokerages with such a policy.  A large number of agents don't show up frequently or for long lengths of time at the office, even if they rent an office at the brokerage.

No, a coúple of agents in our office are allergic, and some people are terrified of dogs and the liability of a dog bite all add up to bad policy to allow it, imho.

And one more thought...If we tell clients to remove pets for showings if possible, why would we allow pets in the office?

I think about the clients and what they think and what if all 30 had a dog to bring and what if they have 2 or more dogs. If it is a big office and not a small office I just don't see it.

Tricky.  As much as I love animals, I can't own a pet because of my severe allergies.  It would be a considerate gesture if the dog owner checked with the other people in the office to see if it would be a problem for them.

Only if it's a service animal! I'm a dog owner and I love dogs, but a group of 30 agents is not the same as a group of 3 or 4. It's not just about checking for allergies or fears, it's about the precedent that may be created and that would have to be dealt with. Can I bring my cat? What about my hamster or goldfish? Just saying, it's a business not a hobby group.

I think it has to depend on if you have that kind of company culture from the start. If you do then you dont run the risk of someone not wanting it already working for you because they knew ahead of time.

I for one support it, it has actually shown to increase productivity of an office having a dog and plants around.
