In Florida ALL FINANCED TRANSACTIONS are suspended if a Tropical Storm is declared for the area BECAUSE the insurance companies will not write new policies until they see....'what's left after the storm.'

We have experienced 13 inches of rain the last three days and I am certain that home buyers from Ohio are having serious second thoughts as FLORIDA old timers ride a kayak down the street.

Had one released a few years back. BIG storm took down an old oak in the front yard and it fell on the house. Delays with insurance claim and repairs killed it.  It did sell later, after repairs, though.

In the few weeks after Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey, real estate came to a complete stop. Many deals were cancelled because homes that had never flooded were under 5-6 feet of water. Real estate took a long time to recover.

I had a storm called vandals, did $150000 damage to a 5 family bank listing. They pulled up on a Friday night and stripped the house for the weekend. Neighbor saw it and said not his problem. The following weekend they cleaned out his garage for him. Then it was his problem but the house had to be demolished as the repairs were more than it was worth.

After Hurricane Sandy, there were many delays.  Many houses needed to be reinspected.  Many places were without power for 1 week (so even just paperwork got delayed and streets were not really cleared for around 3 days and gas lines were 2-4 hrs).  So many offices and schools closed for the week.

Some places (obviously) needed repair and there were delays.  And, I know of some that were so bad that deals got canceled as it may have taken a year or more to do repairs.
