This statement is an example of what wrong in our industry. Because the untrained and novice agents who fail their clients,  realtors got a bad reputation.

I'm proud to be a full time Realtor and I'd never agree that it is easy career.

Why not to get  a lawyer license, doctor license, plumber license, etc. too?

Just in case. You never know!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Here is the way I responded on the Inman site....

Based on some prices in my area, one deal could bring a female (or male) Realtor a whopping $2000. Yes, $2K. The annual expenses alone (not counting time) of insurance, MLS membership, NAR membership, company fees, mileage costs, required training credits to maintain license, license application fees, tools, marketing, etc., cost way more than $2K. In order to make any positive net income, you need to work 6-7 days a week, 10+ hours a day, and make this a career. You need to spend tons of time prospecting, marketing, and learning how to take care of your clients. Clients who need a skilled professional to help them with one of the biggest transactions of their life. A skilled professional is not one who happens to have a license just in case a deal pops up. A skilled professional is one who works their butt off all year long.

Bottom line, this was written in a way that diminishes the work required and perpetuates the myth that being a real estate professional is a walk in the park. It's not.

To my way of thinking this is a totally sexist approach. Also, it only underscores all those stupid myths why people think they should get into the business and not treat it as a true profession and a business. Leigh is in my office... and she's totally right about this being crap.

Forgetting the sexism and presumptuousness on many levels. If it was written to encourage women to take control of their future & economy, then great! But, this stinks of falling short of that. This implies our career can be looked at as a fun little interlude or hobby. This is people's lives, we are surgeons and lawyers, pilots and firemen, we're not Tupperware and Avon. (My mom sold Avon, later became a hell of a Realtor).

That is absolutely ridiculous. And to be perfectly fair why should we exclude men? That way everyone can have a real estate license and do 1 or 2 deals. Oh what a fine mess that would be. Talk about unprofessionalism.

What a maroon!  Yes, it's good if you buy your house you can use the commission to help you out.  Referring someone as an agent gets you more than a starbucks card, but you know these people will try and do the work for the full money.  Not good at all!  Inexperienced people trying to do their one deal does not do the consumer good.  This makes it seem like anyone with a pulse can get a license.

I'm thinking I am not reading the same question everyone else read.

Please note I did not read the article, just the question presented.

IN our industry exists hundreds who sell to real estate agents leads. Some on a subscription basis. a per lead basis and a deferred compensation as a percentage of total compensation.

Many of us pay each other up to 50% for a referral.

What is proposed IS a VALID business model that exists because you and I created this mess by paying for leads and referrals.

The 'insult to the profession' remark although it sounds good on the ears, when examined, tells a different story.

Isn't is amazing how entitlement groups "Women" feel empowered to exercise overt sexism.
