I think this is one of those "it depends" situations. If it were me, I don't think I'd mention it unless it was getting in the way of my appointments/etc. If it were, I'd explain and have to find another agent to help out as needed.

I think, anything that can affect your performance should be disclosured.

What is important: how you deliver this disclosure....

There are a lot of variables and if it affected the ability to take care of clients, seeking help from a coworker who can cover for you is best. You can choose to say why or not. I wish you all the best in healing and over coming it

I would keep it to myself but adding a back up agent from your office might relieve some of your stress.

If you need to do so to reduce stress in your life, be honest with them. If there's no reason to tell your client, then whether or not you do is entirely up to you. Blessings for perfect health and wellness.

That is something that I would want to keep private but, that is my own personal reaction - it doesn't make it right.

I would say that it depends upon the cancer you have, the stage that it's in and the clients as well.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this - it's never easy but, keep the faith, be strong and don't hesitate to lean on your family and friends - they will want to give you the love and support you need to get through this.

If perfomance is affected, there may be a duty to disclose since it affects the fiduciary duty of performing competently.  Short of performance being affected, it can remain a private affair at the discretion of the agent.

The response by Kathleen Daniels is a good example of properly handling such a sensitive issue.

Inna Ivchenko response is also on target!

It depends.  I did not tell my clients until I finished chemo and had surgery. When I got the news that I am "cancer free" I did come out and tell people. That said, I had a short sale referral come to me at the same time I was diagnosed.  I did tell those clients and suggested they work with someone else. I had come so highly recommended they still wanted me to work for them. We went into it eyes wide open ... and all turned out well.

Why would you do that? Try to get sympathy points to sell a house? I don't understand why people are always sharing medical problems and bowel movements with others.

why would you need to do that?  it's not anyone's business other than yours.... if you're ill and need treatment, you can work a client with a partner and not go into any detail about your personal life.... their needs are being handled properly.
