Misleading, just like Zillow and the others.

      My question:

           When NAR sold lifetime rights to Realtor.com many years ago, how much money were they paid?  And where did that money go?

I think there's no real difference between what R.com, Z.com, T.com do and what I (and thousands of other agents) do with IDX, yet everyone gets in a bind over the companies that take fees for redirecting.  The information is provided.  If the consumer ACTUALLY wants the listing agent, they'll figure that out when Agent NOT THE LISTING AGENT contacts them.
And we could have the argument about whether it's really in the buyer's best interest to be going straight to the listing agent in the first place.

That's my .02 and a bit more.

Realtor.com is owned by Rupert Murdoch and is not related to the NAR. If you put such rules on them, you need to put them on Zillow/Trulia, Homes.com, etc. If they are not member of the NAR they can't be held to the same standards.

RTZ are not bound by the CoEs and none are members of NAR so, they are not held to the same standards, unfortunately.

Realtor.com is not a member of NAR, so I wouldn't think they have to be held to the code of ethics. They aren't even owned by NAR. -Kasey

Zillow does the same thing, have had several people think that they were contacting me and instead reached an agent who was paying for leads.

For big business there are no rules or ethics.

No, it is not owned by NAR but it does adhere to standards set by NAR. If changes are made it has to be voted on by the NAR Board which I have been involved with voting on changes. However, it is a syndicator so it has a paid structure.

Money has a way of making rule adjustments!

There is more dirty businees than just this.

You need to get a detailed explanation on how IDX works. This is the way it goes. Yes it would be nice if you got the calls on your listings but think about when your listing shows elsewhere? 

You can put any listing on your website as long as you have the correct IDX explanation FYI. You can play the game also.

It isn't owned by NAR and plays by similar rules as other aggregators like Homes.com, Trulia, and Zillow.

So, do you think it would be better that they encourage dual agency and for the buyer NOT to represented????????????????????????????????????

And the only thing we can do is continue educating the public as to what is going on.

NAR violates their own standards on a daily basis. If you read the REALTOR Magazine facebook feed, you can find articles that steer, discriminate, etc.

They all do the same thing, even your mls. Breathe. This gives a chance to a buyer agent to step in. Another question, that only those who pay $$ have a chance to get a call on those huge websites. 

first of all they are not affiliated with NAR so no.  Secondly it's the IDX and create your own leads for ALL the listings out there.

Unfortunately Damon Botticelli those in charge sold off the name years ago (yes, how dumb was that?!) and we have no control over Realtor.com, just as we have no control over any of the other websites that feature our listings.

Corporate entities that have nothing to do with ethics or standards. They are deceptive giants profiting off our MLS.

I've never been happy with these portals for that reason.  They play fast and loose with the rules and while you MAY be lucky enough to get the contact info when someone clicks that, it also goes to everyone who's paid them (and probably them first).

There are ways around this but they aren't effective.

It is instances like yours that have turned me away from NAR. Although NewsCorp is now the owner of realtor.com the practices have been long in effect to monetize every aspect. No more "contributions" from me.

It is hard to get an organization, company or group to take responsibility when you need it...For the big items, we need one on one, face to face and the higher standards the better for all concerned. Licensing promotes this

I think it's criminal and they are hijacking your business. However, did you read the privacy statement before you clicked "Agree" when signing up? They often spell out that information will be "shared", so don't be too shocked.

I believe you would have to buy a "Showcase" listing package to be the actual agent contacted. They don't give anything for free since their business model is to sell ads, and zips, not to help agents.

It is essential that ethical agents have non-ethical enterprises like The Dominion of Evil Intent and Realtor.com to  exercise such practice for them.

That way they can still sing the chorus, 'We got ethics"

Agents paying these enterprises should get special attention.

This is the way they make their money, same for Zillow and all the others.

I wish we knew.

I recommend that you focus on what you can to get the buyer to call you. You can have an enhanced profile on Realtor.com (i believe that you now have to do this through your broker) that will have your name and photo at the top AND in addition the leads go to you. I have had this ad on for at least 10 years and I get all of my leads on my listings. 

Next you can choose to advertise with them. I advertise with Realtor.com, Zillow (now include Trulia) have great success with them all.
