Richie,

No, I just spoke to someone at one of the people who work at Trader Joe's in Ventura, and he said, my pleasure you are welcome!

It's still your day, Richie! I say, "You're welcome" or "My Pleasure" too!

To me, 'No problem' infers a negative - as if to say there should be a problem but, they're not going to hold it against you!

The times are a-changing and we probably need to change with the times. Otherwise, we will be called the 'old fogies' of yesteryear.

That is a far out and out of sight question. Seriously, every generation is a bit different and older generations want them to mirror their behavior. FYI, I actually said far out.

Correct manners are slipping by the wayside. Should be your welcome. No problem is when someone runs over YOUR foot with a grocery cart.

Shows how you were raised. Ever been in line at the subway waiting for your sandwich artist creation and heading down the line with the sneeze glass. And you say please and thank you but the guy in front of you grunts this, that but no please, no thank you and seems irritated. It is not hard to appreciate when a person does anything for you. It is not just their job but they are serving you. Show appreciate is what I taught the four kids as a single full time Dad.

The way we speak changes with each generation.  Imagine 30 years ago speaking with all our tech terms that we use each day.  People then would think we are speaking another language.

"No problem."

I have no issue with that. However, it is the silience that is troubling.

Do they have some invisible earbud preventing them hearing 'thank you?"

Do I need to grab them by the lapel and repeat..."I said Thank YOU!:

Then I get, 'What's your problem?"

"No problem, " I' would reply.

Some customs get old, like how men used to wear suits & hats everywhere they went but being polite & respectful should never go out of style. That's what I teach my kids but you can't say the same for everyone.

No problem seems to be the response. I hear it a lot on TV too ... I like to watch Dr. Jeff the Mt. Vet and the doctors there, one in particular, says "no problem" all the time.  People are crying with gratitude thanking him and he casually says ... no problem.

I prefer you are welcome or you are most welcome. I'm happy to help.

I find many common expressions become overused at times... another one is: "how are you?"... and the answer is?.... "I'm fine"... and really does the person want to know how you really are?  and are you really fine?...

My father-in-law took particular exception to the "no problem" response, also citing the more proper "you're welcome". My pet peeve is the "ah-ha" response after a thank you.

It depends.  The vast majority of the time I'll use "My Pleasure" mainly because people seem to like that more than "you're welcome."  With friends I'll sometimes use "Anytime" or "Anytime Bro".  At one job, we routinely used "No Prob" and "No Prob Bob".
