A Silicon Valley billionaire is challenging a law in CA that provides public access to beaches because of his property in San Mateo County

It sounds like Florida is becoming more like California.  Sorry,  Fred.

Rick left here in the middle of the night one night. I think I know more than enough about him with his Columbia/HCA shenanigans. 

Oh, that's terrible, Fred! I can't imagine not having free access to the beautiful beaches of Florida. I truly believe this will impact the state's economy if this continues.

It is unbelievable what those with power and little minds will come up with. They don't think of the ramification this is going to cause. 

on Cape Cod in MA, there are private beaches for residents and public for everyone else.....  private is by sticker purchased once at the beginning of the season....

The needs of the few out weigh the needs of the many apparently

We have some private beaches that are highly contested out here.  Generally if you want to do any work on your home in Malibu the coastal commission requires that you make your private beach public as part of the permitting process.  I'm not a fan of that, as I do like the thought of private beaches.  Afterall, we have PLENTY of public beaches out here and in LA County you can't drink booze on them.  I'd like to be able to sit on my beach chair, on my beach, and drink a mai-tai if I so please.

Kind of like the same thing in CA where they try to limit access to the underlings that can't afford a bluff property.

We have one beach when the access is from the enclave is only for the homeowners.  Others may access the beach from other areas and they do.  They are  just are not allowed via the enclave's pass through, as that is private proerty.  The beach is not..  It is not easy to get to, and most don't bother to head that way.  

What was your governor thinking?

In the NE , many Beaches sell Beach Tags(passes) for daily or Seasonal visits

This is going backwards. In CT, a similar law was thrown out in a law suit.

I can see this will have a great impast on tourism.  The reason tourists come to visit Florida is to go to the beach... When someone buys a "beachfront" property, I can't see the lot can include the sand and water... ???  There must be a demarcation line somewhere..

It's not a big deal in my area and I really do not see anything wrong with it. Businesses are trying to keep their part of the beach available for their guests and I understand that. 

As a guest, if I am paying $500 per night to stay at the Breakers and the beach behind it packed with dudes from the Hampton Inn across the street scoping out the the high rollers, then they gotta go.

If I owned a beach house I wouldn't want random strangers out in my front yard.  I think it's fabulous.

WE don't have enless beaches, but the the land ownership goes to the waters edge so walking along the shore line is tresspassing

That does sound like it will cause LOTS of problems.

I like the Hawaii model: beaches everywhere are open to the public.
