299 Comments on Rich Real Estate Agent, Poor Real Estate Agent
As a rookie agent (3 months) I greatly appreciate this survey. I use direct mail to farm my neighborhood. I plan to incorporate some more idea I have gathered from this survey. Will let you know if it does help me become a Rich Agent! :)
This is great information...thank you so much for sharing it.
very interesting survey, definitely provides some insights on where to concentrate on for 2012
Great survey and the results are pretty interesting also makes you examine where you are spending your bucks
Great information!! Very interesting, thanks.
yes, this is very informative. It's great to learn from the success of others... and the failures.
I really enjoyed examing these results and found it very interesting. Thanks for putting this together.
In real estate one size does not fit all, it takes for an agent to be successful a multitude of ingredients, staying focus, prospecting on a regular basis IE: expires, For Sale By Owners, etc. Yes, on a good follow up system, it does not mean ignoring the Internet, but you can bet if you get a lead off the Internet, that another 100 agents got the same lead. There is a local agent that has 58 websites, and he/she sells her C & D leads and is making a handsome profit.
So, your post was very enlightening, but the trouble with statistical data is that it can be skewed, read Think Fast Think Slow, by Daniel Kahneman, or watch the movie Inside Job, which is narrated by Matt Damon, quite an eye opener. Also, much of success in real estate is can be attribute to professional habits.
Phenomenal post, and very eye-opening. Thankfully I find myself in the "rich" category, though I don't know very many people who make $100k+ per year who consider themselves to be rich. After feeding 4 kids, clothe them, provide shelter, pay bills and other expenses, retirement savings, etc...I'm just happy to be able to play a round of golf once a month, :-).
I definitely agree that my experience (10 years) plays a big part in my success because of repeat business and referral, and I also spend a lot on marketing. However, new agents can definitely succeed with the right plan. I made $91k in my 1st year as an agent, while working another job full time, thanks to a 1-800 call capture service, and unrelenting follow-up.
A great posting, this will help formulate my first year business plan.
How did I miss this the first time around. I START ON MY BUDGET IN Oct. for the coming up year. You guys need to redo this one.
Great post! This definately gives me something to think about. Thanks.
Hi Active Rain...Wow The Responses and input here is awesome. I thought I would Circle back this year. it would be interesting to see how a Report would show today...I suspect a few differences would be in play. Is is possible to do an update?
Cheers
The You Tube, video boost, shot in the SEO arm for more reach with easy show an tell frequency is one powerful tool. No surprise there and not time comsuming for the agent, broker who is already at the property listing. Shooting stills and do the write it down, get to know the property process. Video loops breath life into the area, the property listings. And cures the hesitation from way way out of town buyers that you need to expand your market reach. Remove the distance to come see the town, the listing stumbling block with round the clock open house videos to expand your real estate business.
Had to revisit this post, still some powerful figures that I'll use in formulating a new plan.
Very cool infographic. I love this kind of info. Thanks for sharing!

Great post. Don't know why it took so long to get around to reading it. I'd be interested in an updated survey to see what trends there are for 2013 and leading into 2014. CRM is the one thing I see I need to do. For You Tube, I'd be curious what types of videos are being viewed by Buyers. Home tours or community tours? I understand the later leads to the former. Also, how is mobile and iPad or tablets effecting rich vs poor Realtors?
Poor agents work with homes that are for sale, including pocket listings and also go after the for sale by owners.
Rich agents help their buyers buy the home that a buyer wanted that was NOT FOR SALE, and helps the homeowner sell their home for a net price with no negotiating on the price, purchase their property "as is", and all the fees are paid by the buyer. That's the HERE'S MY PRICE way.
One of the keys that is pointed out the the info is the Rich agents Use CRM. I think the use of good CRM is vital to all small businesses.
