The Secret to My Success:
Sucess means a lot of different things to alot of different people. Not to mention that success can be achieved in different areas what I consider to be successful at work is not the same as what I consider successful at home. Since this is mainly about what I do for work, I am going to focus on my success at work.
When I told my Mom that I had decided to be a loan originator she was not so happy. Mom had been in real estate as a broker and then an appraiser since I was in the 3rd grade and knew that sometimes being good at what you do is not enough to be successful. She was really good at what she did, and in some years had phenominal results, in other years not so much. I am pretty sure she was worried that I would have the same results, the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree.
When I got into the business she was right.... I had some really good years and some other years that wern't so good. Another trait I got from Mom is that I am stubborn. I struglled for awhile, until I went to a Rah Rah meeting and listened to Todd Duncan talk about spending time working on your business and not in your business. Essentially what it means is that you have to step back from the day to day and figure out what works and what doesn't! Spend more time working on things that work and eliminate things that don't.
What works:
- You have to know what you are talking about and you have to always stay informed about the changes. In recent months that has been a challenge in the mortgage industry
- Always put your customer 1st. If you take care of your client it will lead to far more business than if you take care of yourself 1st.
- Spend your time ensuring the customers you have are being taken care of and that you address any issues promptly so they get resovled and the transactions go smoothly, rather than looking for new business.
- New business comes from taking care of existing customers. The best referral source is a satisfied customer. The better you took care of them the more they will refer you.
- Ask for referrals...It is amazing how many people need to be reminded that not only is it ok to give my name and number out but that it is much more insulting if you don't.
