Hula Hoop for Fitness at the Pell City Civic Center  I have fond memories of playing with a hula hoop as a child but never thought about using the hula hoop to exercise and burn calories as an adult.  I was at a fashion show when a young lady got on the stage and entertained us with a hula hoop dance.  It was amazing to watch her perform her dance with multiple hoops going all at once.  Later in the evening, I was talking with her and she explained all the health and fitness benefits that come from hula hooping.  It sounded like a lot of fun.  Last Monday night I attended her class at the Pell City Civic Center.  Dana Moore from Aurahoops was an excellent teacher and the class was very enjoyable.  We were having so much fun, the time flew by.  I could feel the burn from the workout and ... 04/28/2010

  Having moved to Pell City, AL from Maryland I had never heard the expression blackberry winter.  While browsing at my local garden center, I heard the young lady working there tell another shopper that the plants she was looking for would be stocked after blackberry winter. Totally confused, I had to ask what she was talking about. She explained that blackberry winter was a old regional weather saying that when spring is here and you think it is time to plant, zap the cold weather hits again.  This usually happens during early May when the blackberry plants are in bloom.    To all of my Pell City neighbors and St. Clair County friends, we are in blackberry winter. 04/28/2010

Relay For Life ~ Pell City Line-Dancers Paint In ~  A Huge Success   The Pell City Line-Dancers Relay for Life Paint In at Celebrations tonight in Pell City, was a huge success.   Artist Linda McCray from Gardendale and a cancer survivor was an excellent teacher, donating her talent for the class. Everyone who attended the class completed a painting and was able to take their artwork home with them.   We enjoyed the class and the proceeds went to The Pell City Relay for Life.  Doris Munkis did an excellent job planning an outstanding event to help find a cure.   03/18/2010

Logan Martin Dam In Alabama~Fishing and Boating Safety Tips Logan Martin Lake in Alabama  was created by the construction of Logan Martin Dam in 1964. The dam provides hydro-electric power to the central region of the state.  When you are boating and fishing around the dam, you need to take special safety precautions. The power system of the dam responds automatically when the demand for electricity rises.  When this happens the generator start up and generates a large amount of water through the powerhouse intakes and in seconds this water is sent downstream.  I was fishing with my son on the rocks below the dam when the warning alarms went off and the generators started, it was hard  to believe how rapidly the water rose to the area we were sitting.  If I had been in a boat and it was... 02/20/2010

Sellers Beware This Could Happen To You I have sold property in the Logan Martin Lake area for 15 years.
