What Do Hoops, The President and Veterans Day have in Common? An Historic Day!

What Do Hoops, The President and Veterans Day have in Common?

USS Carl Vinson

The USS Carl Vinson, home ported off Coronado Island will host the NCAA game between Michigan State and North Carolina today on Veterans Day and The President of the United States will be in attendance. The game has been dubbed " The Carrier Classic".

An historic day for basketball, an historic Day for San Diego and an historic day for the carrier, the USS Carl Vinson.

The prominent symbol of power and the world's most powerful person will play tribute  this day to some of our most acclaimed American citizens, our Veterans. And they will do that on a day that is itself historic. On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice went into effect between the allied nations and Germany. On November 11th, 1919 Armistice Day  was commemorated for the first time.

In 1954, Congress changed the name from Armistice Day  to Veterans Day and it became the day to honor all American Veterans.
