This is a follow up to He said "It might just be a nipple"My trusted plumber arrived to assess my water heater and why it might be leaking. Because the water heater is only 4 years young, he believed replacing the nipple would solve the leaking problem. This is the "nipple" that the plumber believed was causing the leak. It appeared the rubber seal at the bottom where it connects to the tank is cracked.Great news ... I thought. The plumber replaced the nipple and said "That should solve the problem."$80 service charge and $10 for the replacement nipple. New nipple for the water heater! He said "It might just be a nipple"It is generally not a good sign to walk into a garage and see water on the floor. That is exactly what happened this morning. As I followed the trail of water to the source I realized it must be coming from the water heater. I opened the water heater closet door and the pan beneath it was filled to the brim.  The water was flowing out through an overflow pipe and into the garage. Good reason a pan is required to be installed under the water heater together with a pipe directing the water out of the home. While the plumber was close to getting it right ... installing a water heater is not like playing horseshoes.
