Toys for Tots, Rosie’s Cafe – Tahoe City, California

Rosie’s Café will host a Toys for Tots Collection Party on Friday, December 7, 2012 in downtown Tahoe City, California. This is the second of four Toys for Tots Collection parties, and offers another opportunity to become part of the Tahoe community program.

Rosie’s Café toy collection event organizers, Tim Cussin and Asron Gaines, who are both part of “The Gang”, which is a group of local professionals who are committed to making the greater Tahoe area an even better place to live, are having a fun evening for grown-up’s!

Attendees are asked to bring a board game, or a deck of cards to play, along with a new, unwrapped toy.

Rosie’s will be offering discounted appetizers and beverages throughout the evening.

The local Toys for Tots goal this year is to collect 1,500 toys for Tahoe children in need. Come out and have a fund night at Rosie’s Café.

When: Friday, December 7, 2012 - 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. (Adults Only)

Cost: Bring a new, unwrapped toy for children ages: newborn to 17 years

Need some shopping ideas? Shopping for younger children is often easier, but older children need “toys/gifts” too. For children 13 – 17 years in age, the organization suggests books, school supplies, make-up, science projects, soccer balls and nets, basket balls, board games, curling irons, blow dryers, back packs, and when in doubt, you can always write a check (see above) and give a monetary donation.

Any new, unwrapped toy/gift is greatly appreciated. Too often we think our contributions don’t matter, but each gift counts!

This is your chance to make a difference for the local Tahoe-Truckee area children, so come out and have some fun at Rosie’s Café, or at one of the other Toys for Tots events.

An Elegant Affair – Tahoe City, California

The holidays are just about to kick-off in Tahoe City, which means it’s time for the 36^th Annual Elegant Affair event to happen.

Each year on the Friday evening before Thanksgiving, the North Tahoe Boosters organization puts on a wonderful evening of fine wine tasting, beers sampling, and gourmet appetizers to raise money for the North Tahoe High and Middle School Athletics.

An Elegant Affair is held inside at the Boatworks Mall. I’ve attended this event over the years, and I can tell you it’s a lot of fun. Between the wine tasting, enjoying an array of interesting appetizers from local restaurants, you’ll enjoy live Jazz music this year by Remmel Wilson, and don’t forget to bring your checkbook because you’re going to find a great silent auction item to bid on.

This year the event organizers will have nineteen (19) local Tahoe-Truckee restaurants and twenty-seven (27) fine wineries and breweries. If you love wine tasting and are looking for a way to kick-off your holiday season while supporting a good local organizations this is the event for you.

When: Friday, November 16, 2012, Starting at 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Where: Boatworks Mall, 760 North Lake Blvd., Tahoe City, California

Cost: $55 Ticket / $90 per Couple. This event sells out each year, so get your tickets now.

Free Concerts in Tahoe City

It’s the peak of the summer season here in Tahoe City and there’s a lot to do.  If you find yourself in the greater Tahoe City area, check out the FREE Summer concerts in Tahoe City on Sunday afternoons. 

The free 12 week outdoor concert series is presented at Commons Beach (downtown Tahoe City) every Sunday afternoon/early evening during the summer months with the fun beginning around 4:30 p.m. and running until around 7 p.m.  Here is the concert schedule present by the Tahoe City Public Utility District:

• You are welcome to bring your own picnic basket of goodies, but you’re also encouraged to support the local food and beverage vendors at the event. Don’t forget to bring some water as our days are hot and dry!
• The fun starts around 4:30 p.m. so come early for a good seat, food, and people watch before the concert begins!

Come out and enjoy a wonderful late afternoon and early evening of great music on the beaches of Lake Tahoe in Tahoe City, California!

Free Summer Movies in Tahoe City

Tahoe City Fireworks July 4th, 2012

The 66^th Annual Independence Day Celebration in Tahoe City, California is scheduled to happen tonight!

The Tahoe City Fireworks 4th of July 2012 event will take place in downtown Tahoe City at Commons Beach.  The fireworks will take place over Lake Tahoe so you can watch from Commons Beach, a local restaurant, or bring your boat and watch the show on Lake Tahoe.   

If you can see towards Tahoe City from any location on the West Shore, you'll still have a good view of the fireworks display from a distance and you'll avoid the crowds so there are a lot of ways to see the Tahoe City Fireworks tonight. 

The fireworks barge is in place and from the looks of the large crowd all ready down at Commons Beach the party has already started! 

They are still collecting donations, and are passing around the firemans' boot.  With out your donations, this event can't happen, so give generously!

Fireworks: Wednesday, July 4, 2012, Dusk (around 9- 9:30 p.m.), Fireworks Commons Beach begins at dusk.

Come celebrate our national holiday here in Lake Tahoe!

Tahoe City Sushi, Tahoe City, California

My family loves sushi and one of our favorite places to have sushi is at Tahoe City Sushi, Tahoe City, California.  This is a newer restaurant in Tahoe City and it’s good.  Located right on Main Street in downtown Tahoe City, you might miss it if you not looking for it. It is located behind the Gear & Grind Café and below the Clearwater Day Spa.   

This family owned and operated cozy restaurant is popular.  They are open Tuesday – Sunday for lunch and dinner and they have a great selection of sushi.  Favorites in our family are the Spicy Tuna and I dream of Jean which is a vegetarian roll.    

Pricing is good.  For the vegetarian rolls, most are priced around $6.50.  The Spicy Tuna has been priced at $6.50/roll.  The more complicated rolls go as high as $12.50.  Tahoe City Sushi has beer and wine available. 

You’ll find Tahoe City Sushi at 690 North Lake Blvd. (downtown - lake side of the street), Tahoe City, California 96145, 530.581-2004.  They are open Tuesday – Sunday, Lunch and Dinner.   Call to confirm hours of operation.  Tahoe Sushi does not take credit cards, only cash, or personal checks.  For those that need an ATM machine, they have installed one for your use.

Tahoe City Wine Walk, Saturday, June 23, 2012

Get ready to have some fun at the annual Tahoe City Wine Walk, Saturday, June 23, 2012.  If you’re looking to do some shopping in charming downtown Tahoe City, and you enjoy wine, this is the perfect event for you.

This year starting at noon, there will be 30 different tasting locations set-up through-out the downtown area of Tahoe City.  They will feature great wines and food, not to mention it will give you a chance to shop, or learn more about some of Tahoe City’s finest stores, shops, and restaurants.

I went last year with my friend Sandy and we had a blast.  We enjoyed sampling some great wines, snacking on great appetizers, running into old friends, making new friends, and just enjoying a great day in here in Lake Tahoe.

We are planning on doing the Tahoe City Wine Walk on Saturday, June 23, 2012 again this year.  Here are some tips to help you enjoy the event even more.

1)     Comfortable Shoes - Wear comfortable walking shoes.  The event will go as far as the North Tahoe Arts Center and will run the length of the downtown Tahoe City area to the Boat Works Mall.

2)     Designated Driver - Plan ahead and have a designated driver. If you don’t have a friend to come and pick you up, consider taking the bus TART (Tahoe Area Rapid Transit), a cab, or walking.  No bikes.  Riding a bike while intoxicated can be just as dangerous as driving a car, and you can be ticketed for it.

3)     Wear Layers & Sunscreen -.  It may be sunny and warm, but bring a light jacket just in case.  You’ll be outside for close to 4 hours so don’t forget to put on your sunscreen. 

4)     Pace Yourself -  It’s easy to forget to pace yourself when there are so many great wines to taste, food to sample, music, shopping, and you’re doing all of that here in Tahoe City, California at an elevation of 6,200’+.  Drink plenty of water, sit when possible, and watch how much sun you get through-out the day.  You’ll want to enjoy Sunday as much as you enjoyed Saturday.
