If you’ve been driving by
the Denver Botanical Gardens you will have noticed they have strung
up all their lights and the entire place glows from several blocks
away. Working in Denver property management I get to drive past
them almost every day. The Botanical Gardens are offering the
Blossom of Lights event, open nightly until January 1st,
even on Christmas and New Years Eve.
There are over a million colorful lights hung up all over the
gardens, impressively showcasing the elegance of the gardens in
winter. When walking through the lit up paths you will be
given HoloSpex glasses which will multiply the image the lights
give off. They certainly make the viewing a little more
interesting. For all the couples who go there will be plenty
of romantic kissing spots scattered throughout the grounds.
There will be warm drinks and holiday treats available as well as
seasonal entertainment on some nights. If you check out the
amphitheater there will be thousands of lights synchronized with
all kinds of Christmas music.
The Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory will be closed during
Blossoms of Light. The Orangery and Marnie's Pavilion will be
open. The Botanic Gardens are open from 5:30-9:30pm each
night. You can buy tickets online or at the gate for no more
than $10 for adults. This weekend the Columbine Chorale will
be strolling the gardens singing carols from 7-8pm on Friday
December 7th, and on Saturday December 8th
the Ye Wanton Singers will begin strolling at 6pm. This is an
event you will want to put aside some time for this
holiday.

As I
mentioned earlier, the Historic
Croke Patterson Mansion has recently become the Patterson Inn. On Wednesday, October
24th, 2012, the owners of The Patterson Inn are
having a community Open House for members of the Denver
Community. This is an awesome chance to go and see exactly
what the owners of this Historic Landmark to keep the
Croke-Patterson Mansion alive and thriving today.
Located on the southwest corner of 11th and Pennsylvania, the
Patterson Inn is one of Denver's most recognizable landmarks.

Some of you
may remember my blog from a couple of years ago regarding the
Historic Croke-Patterson-Campbell
Mansion, commonly known as the Croke-Patterson Home or
Mansion. This castle-like Sandstone Mansion was
built in 1891 from Sandstone from Manitou Springs, Colorado and was
home to a Colorado Senator and Congressman.
The Croke-Patterson Mansion is also reportedly one
of the most haunted places in Denver. I have repeatedly been
contacted over the past few years by people wanting to get into the
property to study any paranormal activity that may or may not be
present.
The property had been for sale for sometime but was sold and has
recently become the Patterson Inn.
There are 9
uniquely decorated rooms/suites at the Patterson
Inn, each with names like the Antionette, the Biltmore,
the Gusteau and the Royale, etc. Each room is decorated
in it's own style all with their own private baths.
Guests staying at the Historic Patterson Inn
can expect beautifully decorated common areas which include
original woodwork, stained glass, an oak hand carved stairway,
beautifully restored hardwood floors and lavish crown
molding.
The Patterson Inn also offers a pub and dining room which insure
that if you don't want to leave this historic landmark you won't
have to.
You may dine privately in your suite, the dining room, on the
wrap around porch or in the secluded back courtyard.
Rates start at $152 per night mid-week in the Antionette suite,
and go up to $295 per night on the weekends for larger suites.
I spoke with the inn keepers at the Patterson
Inn. They are having a community open house on October 24 2012 between
3:00pm and 7:00pm for the Denver Community to come see what this
historical Landmark looks like today.
The Patterson in is located at 420 E. 11th Ave,
Denver, Colorado 80203, and can be reached at

Historic
Denver is always coming up with some fabulous ways to learn
about Denver's Historic Past. This coming Friday, August 17th
at 6:00pm at the Historic Molly
Brown House, Historic Denver will be hosting a "Titanic
Steerage Class Shindig". Courtesy of the Hollywood
movies, most of us are well aware of what the first class cabins on
the Titanic were like. This dinner will feature Saloon
dining, pints of beer and a band for entertainment.
My own maternal grandfather was born in 1892 in Macedonia, and he
and his brother originally had tickets for the Titanic but missed
the ship due to bad weather. Steerage Class was exactly what
my grandpa would have taken to America.
As a special
offer, the first 10 people that
call 303-832-4092 ext 10 and purchase 2
tickets will receive $30 off the price.
To order
tickets on line click here. Tickets are $55 per person unless
you are one of the first 10 people to call the number above.
The cost of the ticket will also get you membership to Historic
Denver.

Capitol Hill Condo 1116 E 13th Ave #3D:
Super Charming Condo in a Great Location!

A little hidden gem in the heart of Capitol Hill is the
3 buildings on the corner of 13th and Corona. El Mar has the look
of the turn of the century history, but is in the heart of the
hustling and bustling part of Capitol Hill. With Whole Foods, restaurants,
schools, bus lines, nightlife and parks blocks away it is a walkers
dream. A walk score of 91 out of 100
proves the point.
This Cap Hill condominium inside is on the top
floor of this secured building. It is a large one bedroom home that
feels bigger than it's 776 square feet. Mostly because of the
little bonus space in the back that could be a great sun room but
is currently a little office nook.
A little bit of loving care in this one would be worth every bit
of elbow grease or investment and you would have an incredibly
charming central Denver residence. The home has many original
peices of the old building but could use a bit of updating in the
kitchen and bath. Hard wood floors, skylight, high ceilings and
windows really make this feel like a big open and large
space.
This Capitol Hill condo
comes with a prized parking space and an amazing amount of storage.
Both real rarities in the Capitol Hill market. The
storage unit is literally a large 10 x 15 space in the basement. So
if you are downsizinig from a bigger space it is ideal. It's also
big enough you could even use it as some sort of studio if you
like?
Give the KnopHomeTeam a call and set
up a showing. Bring your walking shoes and we can show you the
strengths of the surrounding community, I grew up about 25 feet from this condo, so it's
my old stomping grounds.

Article From Life on Capitol Hill...
The Victorian Holiday House Tour, a Capitol Hill tradition, will return Saturday,
November 26th, Thanksgiving weekend. The tour was revived by the
Colfax Business Improvement District (C-BID) in 2010 after a
ten-year absence.
The tour includes seven historic properties: three Bed &
Breakfasts... the Adiago, 1430 Race, Castle Marne, 16th & Race,

Cottage, 1880 Gaylord; and the Bailey/Siller's mansion, 16th &

The $12 admission (in advance, $15 day of the tour) will include
a full tour of the properties, some of which are not normally
available for public tour (especially during a holiday weekend).
Tickets may be purchased online at colfaxave.com or at the door of
any participant the day of the event.
The tour is scheduled for 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM and proceeds will
benefit Denver Children's Home. Free parking will be available at
Walgreens and Mama's Cafe, located on the fourth and north sides of
Colfax & Race, and Divine Science Church, 14th &
Williams.
Complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides will be available for
ticketed guests and entertainment will be provided by the Original
