Joan Cox wrote a blog last Thursday about an Electronic Recycling Day in Denver, and I commented that I had a lot of electronic devices that I need to get rid of, and needed to find an Electronic Recycling Day around me.  Well little did I know that in just a couple of days I would receive an e-mail from our local Chamber of Commerce announcing a Computer & Electronics Recycling Event At Middlesex Community College in Middletown, Ct. The Computer & Electronics Recycling Event At Middlesex Community College not only will inable me to finally get rid of all the electronic equipment that I no longer have a use for, but it will also be put to good use.  The old equipment that is brought to the Computer & Electronics Recycling Event At Middlesex Community College will be used to purchase ...

The Coleman Brother's Carnival Is In Middletown, Connecticut This Week.  Coleman Brothers is a small Carnival that comes to Middletown, Connecticut every year, and all the kids in town look forward to it.  As you can see from the banner above, and the pictures below, the Coleman Brother's Carnival is mainly geared to the younger kids, but there will lots of teenagers around all week partaking in the fun. The Coleman Brother's Carnival is easy to get to, it is located at Palmer Field right off of Washington Street, RT66.  I took the pictures early in the day before they opened up, that is why there is no one in the pictures, but trust me these rides will be packed with kids later in the day and evening.   The next Middlesex County Chamber Of Commerce Business After Work is going to be at the Italian Society Club.  The Middlesex County Chamber Of Commerce Business After Work AT The Italian Society is one of my favorite Middlesex County Chamber Of Commerce Business After Work events, because besides the great networking, they also have an Auction, and Taste of Downtown at this Business After Work event. Last year I got to taste the food of some of the Middletown Downtown Restaurants that I had not been to before.  Since then I have frequented several of the Restaurants and the food was even better than what they served at the Taste of Downtown. I also enjoy the Auction every year.  Some of the items auctioned off last year, were certificates to some of the Middletown Downtown Restaurant...

The South Fire District In Middletown, CT Easter Flower Sale 2013 is this Thursday through Saturday the March 28 - 30.  The South Fire District also had a Easter Flower Sale last year, and they had an excellent selection of flowers to pick from.  I am making it a point to be there on Thursday to get first picks before most of them are gone. The money that the Firemen raise goes to support a number of charities in Middletown.  So this is a great opportunity to not only get a special someone flowers for Easter, but help support area charities as well.  If you have not bought that special someone Easter Flowers yet, than consider purchasing them at the South Fire District In Middletown, CT Easter Flower Sale 2013.   ***********************************************************************...

Spring Might Be Around The Corner.  We have gotten hit with over 48" of snow between our last two snow storms, which makes you think that Spring will never come.  But then a ray of hope appears, and mother nature begins to tease with visions of Spring, such was this weekend. On Friday we got about 12" of snow here in Middletown, Connecticut, but it was followed by temperatures of over 50 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.  The warm weather not only has us feeling like Spring might arrive early after all, but the daffodils further added to that hope.  Yesterday as the sun was melting the snow away from the house, I noticed the daffodils were beginning to battle there way up through the snow.  I hope the daffodils know something that I don't know, and that they are predicting an early Spring...

I do not like to shovel snow and we only got 12" compared to the 36"+ that we got last month, but even I have to admit some snow storms are gorgeous.  The storm we had this past Friday night into mid day yesterday, was one of those snow storms that you think you are looking at an artist's canvas.  Yesterday's snow storm left the Trees Looking Like They Are Covered In Cotton. The pictures below were taken early yesterday morning just as the sun was finishing coming up.  I wanted to take pictures before the wind started to blow, and knocked the snow off the trees. The drive into work, even though the roads were pretty bad, was like looking at scenes out of an artist's collection of paintings.  I wanted to take out the camera, but better sense got me to keep both hands on the steering whee...

My neighbors, the Graves Family are producing Maple Syrup again this year, and Pure Connecticut Maple Syrup is among the best Maple Syrup that I have had.  The first sign that they had started the production of Maple Syrup this, year was this weekend when I notice the buckets hanging from the maple trees.   Collecting the sap from the many maple trees in the area is the first step in producing the Maple Syrup.  Once the Graves Family has collected enough sap from the maple trees, it will be taken to the little refinery that the Graves Family have on their property. After the sap from the maple trees has been refined, it is put out for sale.  The Graves Family does not produce their Maple Syrup in large quantities, and it is only sold at a small stand located on their farm.  One of the a...

Middletown CTLittle League Registration Middletown CT, Little League Baseball Registration is going on right now, as it is in many other Connecticut towns.  Middletown is taking a different approach to Little League Baseball Registration this year. in order to register your child you need to go onto the Middletown CT, Little League Website.  Make sure that you do it early so that you receive all the notices between now and the start of the season. Both my sons played Little League Baseball in Middletown, and both enjoyed their experience.  Many of the games that they played were on the field in the picture below.  Middletown has invested several thousands of dollars to improve the Middletown Little League Fields, as well as providing batting cages, and electronic scoreboards since my t...

What A Difference Two Weeks Make.  It almost seems impossible that we were looking at the scene in the picture below just two short weeks ago.  We had over 36" of snow, and after it was shoveled the mounds of snow were over our head.  But look at what it looks like now just two short weeks later. In fact we can even see grass again!!! It is amazing What A Difference Two Weeks Make.  I am not a big fan of the snow, but I am ready for more as long is it not another 36 plus inches again :)   *******************************************************************************  Info about the author: George Souto is a Loan Officer who can assist you with all your FHA, CHFA, and Conventional mortgage needs in Connecticut. Before all the snow came down last Friday, I was able to take this picture of this water pump that is on one of the farms at the end of my road.  I don't know if the water that is shooting from the water pump is suppose to do that, or if the pump is broken, but whether it is broken or not, it has created a nice Ice Sculpture. I have been seeing this water pump covered in ice for the last several day, so finally I stopped and took a picture of it.  At night there is a blue light that shines from the water pump and through the ice.  It really looks great, and I would have taken a picture of it at night, but my camera doesn't do a good job of capturing night light.   *******************************************************************************  Info about the author: George Souto is a Lo...

So much for the Weatherman's prediction of 18"-24" of snow for Middletown, Connecticut, We Got Over 36" Of Snow.  At one point last night we got at least 5" of snow per hour, it just kept on coming and coming down. The last time I seen this much snow at one time, was in February of 1978, and it took me three days to get home.  This time I got off the road while I could, though I did take an application for a nice VA Loan before I did :) I have a nice snow-blower, but it took me and my youngest son, Brandon to cut through the snow.  Brandon would knock the snow down and I would snow-blow it away, for five hours we did that.   The pictures below will give you a good idea of what it was like.  This first one was of the two of us just trying to get out of the garage. The second picture is o...

Yesterday I spent my day assisting my youngest son Brandon, with the Woodrow Wilson Middle School Wrestling Tournament In Middletown, CT.  Brandon is the Wrestling Coach at the Woodrow Wilson Middle School, and he recruited the whole family to help out.  So my wife, my oldest son and his wife, and me were there for the whole day helping out in different capacities. They had 270 Middle School Wrestlers participate in the tournament today, so it was an all day event.  Even though it was a very long day I enjoyed it.  Both my boys wrestled in High School for four years, so this brought back some very fond memories of those days.  The tournament was very successful, and free of any major injuries.  Even though Brandon was the Assistant Wrestling Coach at the High School for eight years, thi...

Community Colleges Offering Green Course in Connecticut and Other States. If you are interested in building green or achieving a sustainable lifestyle then you should take a look at your local Community College. Many regional Community Colleges are offering Green course for their students, homeowners & landlords, real estate agents, builders, architects and whomever else interested in new green building technology, the science behind it, green raters and how to live sustainability. How do I know? I have literally attended hundreds of hours of ‘Green’ classes, lectures, tours and continuing education seminars and this one that I am recommending is a comprehensive 20 hour course that covers a lot of different aspects. Obviously the course content is important but equally important is the ...

Middletown Youth Lacrosse For Grades 1-8 is holding registration for their 2013 season.  We did not have Lacrosse when I was growing up in East Providence, RI, but boy OH boy would I have loved to play this sport.  Just imagine being able to run up and down a field, with a stick and whacking people.  Now that is something that I really could have gotten into, and excelled at back then. OK all kidding aside, Lacrosse is really a fun sport and becoming more and more popular.  Registering your child for the Middletown Youth Lacrosse For Grades 1-8 is a great opportunity to see if this is the sport for him or her.  Registration is in person, and you have two opportunities to register.  Blow are the dates, time, and location to register at, as well as a website for more information.
