Genetically Modified Food and it's Implications for Vegetarians, Food Allergies & Intolerances
Lesley Burton-Dallas (Turtle Clan Global)

This recent story written by the prominent restaurateur Raymond Blanc raises the issue of genetically modified food (GM) and its implications for vegetarians, food allergies & intolerances.

Raymond Blanc's restaurant Le Manoir is very famous and highly professional in all aspects of preparing food but they feel that they have been caught by insufficient GM food labelling.

Le Manoir now set about sourcing cheese that was suitable for vegetarian use and came across a dilemma. Rennet is now produced by several organisms including Aspergillus niger that have had the gene for rennet introduced into them by genetic manipulation.

Quite apart from the debate of whether or not we should be eating GM food and whether or not those foods are appropriate in a high class restaurant that insists on the finest sourced ingredients, this means that we can now have rennet - in some ways an animal protein - produced by micro-organisms that are certainly not animal in origin.

Should a vegetarian accept these proteins as non-animal? They have never been near an animal but the DNA sequence originates in an animal. Perhaps individuals should be able to make that choice themselves? - but here there is a second point. Food that has been produced using a GM product does not have to be labelled GM, so no-one, restaurateur, customer or consumer knows that they are there and thus cannot make that decision for themselves.

There are now many more examples of  foods or food constituents being made using Aspergillus. There is some evidence that foods can cause allergic reactions, even in parts of the body remote from the digestive system - in fact there are examples of  a food made from a fungus (Quorn) that can cause repiratory problems and include cross reactivity to Aspergillus. This raises the possibility that such foods could adversly effect the allergies of patients suffering from a wide range of allergies, including allergy to Aspergillus e.g. ABPA, sinusitis.

If some foods can contain Aspergillus or other microorganism without our knowledge then perhaps the labeling regulations need to be rethought-out.

RealAge Tip of the Week: A Unique Protein Source that Wipes Out Wrinkles
Lesley Burton-Dallas (Turtle Clan Global)

Ahhh, soy. It's a love-it-or-hate-it kind of food. But maybe you would grow to adore tofu, tempeh, and edamame if you knew this: It could help you look younger.

Yep. Eating lean, nutritious soy foods may help smooth fine wrinkles and buoy your skin's snap-back qualities, according to recent research. Those are two big victories for face freshness.

It's All About Aglycone
Soy is packed with a special isoflavone called aglycone, and it appears to be the source of the youth-boosting magic. In a study of middle-aged women, those who took a daily 40 milligram supplement of aglycone noticed diminishment in the fine wrinkles (better known as crow's feet) around their eyes. The women also enjoyed a smoother complexion and a big jump in elasticity. (Add these other foods to your list of elastin- and collagen-boosting edibles.)

Wrinkle Weapons
Aglycone is among several plant estrogens found in soy. Soy estrogens may help counter age- and menopause-related changes in skin by hindering collagen depletion and boosting the production of connective tissue cells in the skin. But soy is not without its drawbacks. Get the YOU Docs' take on all the conflicting information about soy.

Are topical estrogen creams a good idea? Find out whether they can help stymie menopause-induced skin changes.

Ready to fall in love with tempeh? Then check out this Smothered Tempeh Sandwich recipe.

RealAge Benefit:

Training your taste buds to love foods that thwart aging can make your RealAge at least 3 years younger.

How should a CERTIFIED 3RD PARTY MOLD TESTING COMPANY handle a Dreaded HOUSE-COOKER
Lesley Burton-Dallas (Turtle Clan Global)

I wanted to share with everyone an example of ‘HOUSE COOKING"...

house-on-fire ...as it pertains to mold testing companies and what they are sometimes asked to do by their clients.

This is a big ugly blemish in the Indoor Air Quality industry   Pimples (The Best Worst Thing

I can't remember how many times we've had a client who wants us to re-write our microbial reports to suit their needs when it comes to potential insurance claims or real estate negotiations.

Using one word can change the outcome dramatically, that's why the language we use is so critical and litigious

There are in fact numerous companies that will go in on it with their clients to ‘cook' the lab numbers and make them worse than what they are. They can manipulate the test by opening windows, stomping around floor to kick up particulates, leave air machine on for more/less time than necessary...

Mafia  I call these companies THE MOLD MAFIA.

They are normally in cahoots will insurance companies, sometimes Realtors and sometimes the homeowner themselves!

.

That is why it is critical to use an IAQA or IICRC certified mold testing company whose reputation you can count on.

Finding testing companies who follow the IICRC and IAQA protocols are your best bet.

Here is a sample of a letter from one of our clients who is hoping to get their remediation paid for by their insurance company to the sum of $15,000.

This is an excerpt of the actual letter we received from client:

"I am sorry to be so tough but I still think the wording under #1 is still going to pose some problems for us and I would really like it re-worded. Can you just delete the sentence "According to the American Conference of Government Industrial Hygienists, it is a significant fungal amplification if the total interior fungal spore count is ten (10) times greater than the total exterior fungal spore count"? Then for the next sentence instead of "However due to the occupant's health condition" put instead "Due to the elevated Aspergillus/Penicillium, we highly recommend professional remediation"?

Then for the paragraph after that could you leave the first sentence and change the second sentence to "The elevated microbial spore count is therefore not from the HVAC system but is most likely from the roof being punctured" and then the rest of the paragraph is fine. The way you have it written now still leaves it somewhat of a mystery/guess and it shouldn't be with the way those samples came back?

I realize it may seem I'm being difficult but part of the reason I had you come to test and then plan on having you come to re-test (and the outlay of $3000 out of my pocket because this was the second test done) was so that I could try to get the $15,000 remediation job covered. If this isn't written correctly I'll be out $18,000, instead of $3000. So please if you could think of changing the wording in these two areas I would really appreciate it? Thanks so much"

So this client wants us to risk our reputation and credibility for us to write that they have a worse contamination problem than they really do.

Our answer was a polite: "TOO BAD!!We will not ‘cook' your house!"

We can't, won't and don't guarantee what lab results will be, so if the results don't suit client, oh well.

That's what a 3rd Party Certified Mold Tester is for. They have nothing vested in your mold, so you can be assured of unbiased science.

If you need a mold testing company to behave unscrupulously, I'm sure you will have no problem finding one that will want to play.

But it won't be Turtle Clan

HOW TO ELIMINATE MOLDY SMELL FROM CLOTHING
Lesley Burton-Dallas (Turtle Clan Global)

Mold thrives in places of high humidity and warmth.

The more damp and warm an area is, the better. Mold on a Leather Jacket or on  This includes walls, floors, personal items, and yes - clothes.Mold grows on clothes, books,

So what can be done about it? Found some useful tips that also work with cigarette and urine odors...

The first thing to note is timing. Inside a Wind-up Alarm Clock The faster you can find a mold contaminated item, the better. Mold becomes increasingly hard to remove and deal with as it grows and thrives.

Mold can be found in some of the oddest places because it has the ability to thrive almost anywhere as long as it has the following two things:

  • food
  • moisture

In the proper conditions, mold can spread or 'colonize' in a matter of 24-48 hours after getting wet.

Mold Grows on Clothing

As mentioned above, clothing is the perfect place for mold growth. If you happen to find mold on an article of clothing - hopefully its been caught quickly - there are a few ways to go about removing it.

Remember timing is of the essence when dealing with mold growth because the longer mold stays on the fabric, the worse it will smell and the more time it has to weaken and eventually rot your clothes.

Here are a couple of ways you can easily, safely, and quickly remove mold that is growing on clothing and get rid of the musty, moldy smell at the same time.

I. Vinegar and Lemon  Vinegar or  A very unusual approach would be to use vinegar in removing mold

and its smell. Vinegar used in combination with lemon is very useful and effective in removing the ‘moldy' smell from clothes. Add 3/4 cup white vinegar to a load of wash.

The vinegar will remove any moldy smell from clothing. Repeat this process until all traces of mold and its smell are gone. Use detergent with orange scent afterwards to thoroughly clean your clothes.

What's so interesting about this process is that vinegar itself is made through fermentation with the help of a certain type of mold.

II. Old Fashion Cleaning

  • Brush off loose mold growthbrooms

Take all clothing that have mold or have been exposed to mold, outside and one by one, brush off any loose mold growth. By doing this outside you prevent mold spores from spreading inside the house.

Always remember to wear a protective mask and gloves Protective mask and latex gloves when dealing with mold contamination.

  • I've Got Sunshine...on Set it out in the sun to dry After brushing, leave the clothing out in the sun to dry. The heat and sun will kill whatever is left of the mold in your clothes.removing clothing mildew.

  • Presoak in cold water Picture of Cold Water Tap

Presoak remaining clothes that have stains in cold water, then wash in hot water with detergent.  Allow the clothing to dry completely in the sun.

  • Sponge MOLD stain with bleach             Sponge on bleach solution

If the mold stains persist, sponge the contaminated area with diluted chlorine bleach, you can use 2 tbsp. bleach to 1 qt. water. Make sure that the bleach that you use won't change the color of the fabric.

You can use lemon juice and salt solution as an alternative for bleach if treating colored fabrics. After about 10 minutes, rinse thoroughly.

  • Launder, rinse and dry       laundry-machines-out-of-  Launder as usual, rinse and allow to dry in the sun. Remember to fully dry the clothes that you have disinfected to make sure that mold doesn't grow back.

III.  HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide!  I have recommended this magic stuff for years! Simply spray on stinky clothing and let dry...odor is simply gone!!!!

Hope these were helpful tips!

Lesley

Is there a FUNGAL LINK TO DISEASE???
Lesley Burton-Dallas (Turtle Clan Global)

In my non- medical opinion, I say , I think there is! I really want to share with you some of the best information I have ever come across. I think it actually saved my life!

It's understanding The Fungal Link to Disease.

I came about this information going through my own horrific ordeal with Lyme Disease

DVBID: Blacklegged Tick | CDC File:Ticks 1.jpg - Wikimedia ...which I'll do another blog on another time.

After contracting Lyme and Eurlichiosis and going on Doxycyclene for 12 weeks, my body (flora) was wiped out like a nuclear bomb had exploded inside menuclear-bomb-test.jpe

leaving me tired, weak, old, fat. I felt like I was a hundred years old.

I thought I was finito!Ticks(1993)Ami Dolenz!!! and

That's when I found a naturopath who told me about Candida overgrowth and how so many diseases stem from this like CANCER, DIABETES, ARTHRITIS, AIDS, LUPUS, ADD, the list goes on and on...

...and you know? It totally makes sense to me when you start thinking about it in this way.

Look at a house that's full of toxic mold. and toxic mold

This is exactly what happens INSIDE our bodies when we've taken anti-biotics which literally mean: anti life!

Our yeast to bacteria ratio is knocked out of wack and the yeast starts growing and colonizing in, on and around our organs and tissues.

Look at dermatitis...   Stasis dermatitis.A.D.A.M. > Dermatitis Dermatitis 6

...it looks just like mold on a wall!

Look at cancer...Skin cancer

When AIDS first came into light in the late 70's early 80's they started having success using this 'miracle' drug called Diflucan. DiflucanWhat is this?

It's an ANTI FUNGAL!!!

You must take a look at the man and the site that I credit for saving my life...

He goes on to say that the food source for the mold must be stopped first before trying to fix up the contamination that exists inside your body by going on cleanses and taking pro-biotics: pro- life.
