Dr. Robert J. Huckshorn, after playing a variety of key roles at
Florida Atlantic University, currently serves as Vice President
Emeritus of FAU’s MacArthur Campus. When Dr. Huckshorn retired, the
University set aside a part of the campus to be dedicated as an
Arboretum in honor of his many years of service. His vision for the
Arboretum is that it feature native Florida plants and become a
resource for teaching and research on the MacArthur Campus. Through
a collaborative partnership between the Edna Hibel Art Foundation
and Florida Atlantic University, the Hibel Fine Arts Complex was
established on the John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter, Florida.
The buildings, encompassing more than 10,000 square feet, provide
the MacArthur Campus with display areas for traveling exhibitions
from a wide variety of art institutions, space for a collection of
artwork by internationally renowned artist Edna Hibel, classrooms
and academic offices. The facility is a valuable art resource for
FAU students and faculty, as well as for the entire community. As
art education is rooted in the concept of nurturing extraordinary
talent for the benefit of both the individual and society at large,
Edna Hibel's life and work stand as shining examples of such
broad-based education. They present a vision of what can be
accomplished by a person with talent, dedication and a generous
spirit. Florida Atlantic University is privileged to have the
opportunity to merge Edna Hibel's vibrant legacy with the
University's educational mission. The John D. MacArthur Campus is
conveniently located off I-95 and Donald Ross Road within Jupiter's
Abacoa community. The campus presently enrolls more than 3,600
students and offers a wide range of upper division and graduate
programs from 6 of FAU's colleges, including 17 bachelor's degrees
and 7 master's degrees. The MacArthur Campus is also home to FAU's
Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College. A thriving Lifelong Learning
Society provides non-credit liberal arts courses for mature
adults.
