If you see this on your property    It means this is living there!!!   THIS is a Gopher Tortoise and in Florida it is a protected, endangered species.  A friend of mine found out just how serious Florida takes it's job in protecting this turtle.  I won't mention the vendetta taking place, but when a clean-up of the area was attempted by the owner it took less than 5 minutes for the Florida Fish and Wildlife people to arrive on the scene.  My friend, a veteran of 2 tours in Iraq and currently going through the police academy was stunned at the uncompromising position taken by the FWC.  A consultation with an attorney lessened the fear of being denied a new, post-war career, but it's a lesson other's may learn from.  I guess what gripes me is that builders come in and bulldoze an entire s... 09/10/2008
