 Hibiscus Flowers

There are several hundred types of beautiful, colorful hibiscus native to warm, tropical and subtropical regions. They are used as landscape shrubs for their showy flowers. Citizens in Malaysia and South Korea love hibiscus flowers so much, they have been named as their national flower.

The hibiscus have single and double flowers, a variety of colors - red, pink, yellow, orange, white, variegated and more. In general the flowers only last for a day, in cooler weather they may last longer.

Hibiscus can grow by cutting, and also hybridizing by grafting on to a good root stock.

Many homeowners plant hibiscus in their gardens to attract the butterflies, bees and hummingbirds.

Some Asian countries use the flowers to make tea.  Different colored hibiscus produce tea with different colors and flavors.  These teas contain Vitamin C and minerals used as mild medicines.
