My Favorite Honolulu Neighborhoods: Hahaione Valley-Lower, in the Hawaii Kai Region

The first valley as you approach Hawaii Kai from the Diamond Head direction is Hahaione Valley. The valley is divided into Lower and Upper Hahaione Valley.

Lower Hahaione Valley offers around 320 homes built in the early 1970′s. A quiet neighborhood, Lower Hahaione offers moderate priced homes and the convenience of a bus route that runs around the valley taking riders to the Park & Ride.

Near the beginning of the valley are several high-rsie condominiums and three town home complexes. Shopping is very close by at the base of the valley.

Hahaione ValleyHahaione Valley

Hahaione Valley, with its beautiful lushly covered mountains, is the first valley when entering Hawaii Kai from downtown Honolulu.  It is divided into Lower Hahaione, consisting of around 320 homes built in the early 1970s, and Upper Hahaione, with 350 plus, including many custom built homes, which were built from the mid 1970s through the 1980s.

Upper Hahaione is at a higher elevation giving the lovely Koko Head and ocean views from houses on the east side, and lush mountain views from those on the west.

View from Upper Hahaione Valley

There is a bus route along the roads separating the upper and lower valley, with excellent service, making it a very convenient place to live.  Hahaione Elementary School, at the base of the valley, is an excellent school.

Also at the beginning of the valley there are several high rise condominiums - Plaza Hawaii Kai, Naniwa Gardens, Heritage House, Mauna Luan and Commodore,  and three townhouse complexes - Mariners Village l, Mariners Village ll and Village Green.  Shopping is just a few blocks from the base of the valley.
