We have now moved into the part of my vacation which is a vacation from my vacation on Oahu. I had originally planned to spend only four days in Waikiki with Hella to celebrate New Year's. But then my husband told me that Patton Oswalt is scheduled to perform tonight at the Blue Note. Hey, some good has come from all of my Hawaii travel in that I now have the level of status on Hawaiian Airlines that lets me change my return flight without charge. So I moved my flight up a few days and changed hotels as Hella is staying with family. Hella makes a great guide because she knows all the good places to go. You can read more about our adventure yesterday in my personal blog today at this link: Things to Do After New Year's in Oahu.

Hope Everyone had a great 4th of July! We spent the 4th at the 68th Annual Kailua 4th of July Parade and Fireworks Independence Day Celebration. Kailua has always been a great place to enjoy 4th of July activities on Oahu and is the location of the only Independence Day Parade on Oahu. The Kailua festivities start with the Annual Kailua Independence Day Parade. Groups start lining up early at the North end of Kainalu Street, at Palapu Street, near Kainalu Elementary School. The parade usually starts at around 10:00 and fun groups with floats, cars, music, entertainment, etc. start heading down Kainalu Street. You can set up your lawn chairs anywhere along Kainalu Street to get a good spot. You will usually see local businesses, schools, politicials, civic groups, and others participate ...

This fabulous home at 726 Mokulua offers some of the best views you will ever see in Kailua. Right at the entrance to Lanikai, you have a view spanning across Kailua Bay.  The home itself, has many unique architectural details. The home has over 5,000 sq ft on 4 levels and has 4 bedrooms and 5 1/2 baths. This home was listed at $11,500,000. The kitchen is modern with high end appliances and of course, the views. My clients are ecstatic over their recent purchase of a home within less than a block of Lanikai Beach in Kailua. Homes near the beach in Kailua are hard to find. Especially ones like this.  This home has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathroooms, plus a detached cottage. On a huge lot (over 14,000 sq ft) there is plenty of room for even extended family. This Lanikai Beach home has a remodeled gourmet kitchen with upscale appliances and parking for 6 cars. Originally built in 1928, the home has undergone several additions and many remodels. It still retains some of the historic charm, with high ceilings and some beadboard detail, in some of the rooms. This home was originally listed at $1.5M, but with multiple offers on the first day of showing, it sold for $1.65M. The real estate market in Kailua, e...

This weekend I was invited to cousin Wendy's house in Kailua. When we arrived, there was a stand in the driveway that says: Mongoes $1 each. There was also a jar to leave your money, as in the "honor system". Wendy tells me she makes quite a bit of money, because at the store mangoes go for about $5.99/lb. "We do have people stopping by to bargain with me and, occasionally, I'll even sell them for less," she says, "but only if I have too many ripe ones at one time." And ripe they were this weekend. Her girls were trying to get them before they fell to the ground. When that happens, the fruit "explodes" into mush. And you certainly don't want to sit under the tree at this time. They also had fun taking the overripe ones and hurling them baseball style to the far corner of the garden to t...

Maunawili Homes for Sale in the Kailua Hawaii Neighborhood What is so special about this place?  Maunawili has a special meaning "Mountain of the Female Spirit".  In ancient belief, there was an attractive female ghost that would dance with 'unfaithful' men, and they would be so lured, they would dance on and one until they died of exhaustion.   Maunawili Homes for Sale in the Kailua Hawaii Neighborhood are situated in this beautiful neighborhood of single family homes that have views of the mountains and some even can see to the ocean. The area is conveniently located only a couple of miles outside of Downtown Kailua and on to the world's most famous beach.  You travel into the valley and find this pocket of pleasant homes. This is a follow up to my article when this awesome property was first listed. There was one broker's open, and one open house and then 7 offers were presented to the Seller's. This was one of those transactions that was pleasurable. The Seller's were agreeable to all of my suggestions from start to finish. We met a month or so before and set our game plan. The seller decluttered, did some finishing touches on fixtures in the house, gave it a good cleaning inside and out, and finally staged it to sell. The Buyer's were pleasent, and the Buyer's agents were timely, competent, and gracious throughout the deal. I wish I had listings and transactions like this ALL DAY LONG, EVERY DAY, EVERY TIME! The asking price was $995,000 and the sold price was for $1,021,000. There was another offer th...
