Happy Halloween in Hanalei, Kaua'i We were visiting Hanalei in Kaua'i last week (just got home very early this morning) and spied this well-dressed skeleton in front of one of the collections of stores where our favorite Hanalei restaurant, Bar Acuda, is located.  The skeleton was a kid and photo magnet, with lots of parents snapping pics of kids standing in front of it and holding on to the legs. The skeleton had to be close to 12 feet tall although it might not appear that large in my photo.

Wordless Wednesday: Holey Grail Donuts in Kauai Well, I don't know that they are the Holy Grail, but they sure were good!  We just spent a week on Kauai for my birthday. We had heard about this food truck in Hanalei from our neighbors who had visited recently. It sounded pretty good so of course we checked it out, even though I can't say I am a big donut fan! Holey Grail Donuts (also in Honolulu) offers a wide array of flavors and the options change often. The donuts are made right there as you wait, created from taro, a healthy root vegetable grown in Hawaii. I kinda like the idea of healthy donuts, don't you?! We chose the Lilikoi (passion fruit) and Island Chocolate, but their tasting box of 4 sounded intriguing. Can you guess which is which? LOL.  They were doing a brisk business wh...

Wordless Wednesday - A Unique Planter  I snapped this photo recently of a pretty cool old truck in the small art town of Hanapepe when visiting Kauai...rather a unique planter, don't you think? I love the colors and especially the rooster - if you've visited Kauai you know roosters and chickens are everywhere. We were in the same town 4 years ago - here's the same truck (I believe).

Sometimes Nature is Colorful, Sometimes Not  I stumbled across this photo from Kauai, from a trip we took in 2017. Kauai is nicknamed the Garden Isle for good reason, a very lush, green and colorful place from the mountains to the valleys. This photo was taken, as is, as the sun was setting from Kilauea Road. A rather different kind of sunset that my camera interpreted in its own way. Interesting trees, aren't they? They appear to be Cook Pine trees based on my research.

This is the place to go if you want to learn about the rich history and culture of the ancient Hawaiians. There are also numerous shopping and dining alternatives once you've seen these cultural and historical attractions. Lihue, HawaiiLihue, Hawaii Community SpotlightLihue is the capital city of Kauai Island, and despite it being heavily urbanized compared to other towns on the island, it still retains its charming tropical paradise feel. There are beautiful natural wonders, tourist-friendly areas, and landmark attractions that make the region quite attractive to locals and visitors alike. Like many other communities, Lihue was originally established as a sugarcane plantation by German colonists in 1849. The plantation industry declined through the years, and most mills and farms were abandoned and replaced by tourism which became the primary industry in Hawaii.Check out our original blog post at https://kauaicondosandhomes.com/. Top Attractions in LihueFor a lovely day tour learning more about the histo...

Throwback Thursday: Sabrage for the Sunset in KauaiSabrage is a ceremony where a bottle of champagne is opened with a sabre, harking back to Napoleonic times in France (well, that's what Google says!). There is even a special sword - a Champagne Sword - often used for sabrage. The St. Regis Hotel in Princeville, Kauai, celebrates the sunset every night with this ceremony which we enjoyed a number of times (most recently in 2017). The sunset, and views from the St. Regis, never disappointed!

Throwback Thursday: A New Kind of Graffiti  We were visiting Kauai in September 2017 and exploring the art town of Hanapepe. There is a swinging bridge there that's pretty cool to walk over - that's another story. But close by the bridge we noticed quite a bit of graffiti on some of the plants, the leaves of which were apparently quite suitable for amateur artists. It was sort of a shame to see them defaced, and the first time, other than seeing it on tree trunks, that I have seen plant leaf graffiti.

Throwback ThursdayRainbow in Princeville, Kauai  Like many, we miss the opportunity to travel because of the pandemic...well, we COULD, but... and have recently been talking about our past trips to Kauai and Maui, and how nice it would be to just pack up and go. But it's nice to have lots of photos to remember those trips for now. Rainbows are pretty common there, and always fun to see, especially when you are just sitting around relaxing by the pool overlooking the ocean, as we were here before dinner in Princeville, Kauai.
