Bi-Water Farm & Greenhouse877 Cincinnati Rd, Georgetown, KY  40324They are open 7 days a week.  click here for hours.   When I first moved to Georgetown, KY this past fall, I noticed a sign for Bi-Water Farm & Greenhouse right off Hwy 25. This is actually just a few feet away from my subdivision entrance to The Colony.  As I drove by thousands of times during the next few months I realized I still didn't know anything at all about the Farm and what they provided. Was it private? Was this something that only locals knew about and are invited to?  Did I need to be invited?  Maybe it was some sort of commercial-only business. As I drove by, I would peek as far up the way as I could. What in the heck do they do in that cute, little house tucked away on the hill? Here's what I learned....HEC...

Yup, the wife was at it again.  Weeks decorating for that one grand night.  Seems we must have had about 400 or 500 ghosts, goblins, super heroes, villains, cows and other various and sundry home made costumes come through.  Of course it helped that our rural subdivision held Trick or Treating on Saturday night and the nearby town didn't.  Lot's of additional visitors to the neighborhood.  Fortunately, we had plenty of Treats so we didn't see any Tricks. The kids' favorite seemed to be having their picture taken in the graveyard. I liked her wizard the best. The spiders were just a tad difficult to get to close to without getting caught in their web.

Scott County Steal?  Save Thousands, Buy a Home Right Now in Scott County Kentucky! Georgetown is the population center and includes the large Toyota Manufacturing Plant. In January there were 14 months of inventory for homes that were priced between $140,000 and $160,000 dollars in Scott County.  A 14 month absorption rate for this price of home is highly unusual.  It is highly likely that right now there are a bunch of desperate sellers that need to move their homes in this price range in Scott County. If you are waiting to buy there has never been a time that I can remember (and I can remember president Eisenhower) when prices were so historically low, interest rates were historically low and there is a record inventory for homes. Take a look at some of the lovely homes for sale in S...

The other day, I'm doing a Kentucky Home Inspection in Georgetown, KY on a 13 year old house.  The seller was home.  I asked her if there were any problems she was aware of before I got started.  She said, "the heating bills are a bit high but that's all". Lot's of tall walls (vaulted ceiling) in the house: living room, entry way, kitchen, master bedroom, second bedroom. 13 years later, as she's looking at spending a couple of thousand dollars to have the tall walls insulated (and wondering how much lower her heating and cooling bills would have been over the last 13 years), she's thinking, "BUT IT WAS NEW, I DIDN"T NEED AN INSPECTION!" The builder is long gone.  She had a choice.  a.  $300 or so for a new construction inspection. b.  $2,000 for insulation and unknown extra heating and ...

Some of you saw the creative ideas my wife had for decorating this Georgetown Kentucky Home Inspector's  yard during Halloween. Halloween in Central Kentucky wasn't quite so scary this year! Kids and adults alike enjoyed it with quite a few of them wanting to have their kids climb into the pumpkin patch to have pictures taken with Charile Brown and his gang.  She quite willing obliged and let them. It went over so well, she now wants to do something similar for Christmas. My wrist still hurts from cutting up the three sheets of plywood.  Fortunately for me, that (and mounting them  [as directed] in the yard) is the extent of my participation.         My first part is done.   Now it's her time to turn these hunks of plywood into useable decorations.   I used to think her ideas were wac...

Yesterday, Thanksgiving, was a balmy 63 degrees here in central Kentucky, though it was a lot of drizzling rain. Then I wake up this morning to head for the coffee shop and whatta you know.  I had to scrape the snow and ice off my windshield. My grandsons, who spent the night with grandpa and grandma, jumped up, threw on extra layers of clothing, and were off with their sleds and snowball fights. Good thing, because it'll likely all be melted away by tomorrow! Become a Facebook Fan

As I was writing another blog this morning Do you snicker when Inspectors mention anti-tip brackets? I used one of my favorite analoogies about a lot of the stuff I find when performing Central Kentucky Home Inspections. I decided it rated a blog of it's own, so here it is! ====================== A lot of the stuff home inspectors find wrong is like the seat belt in your car.  You hope you never ever need it, but there's a good enough chance that we will need it, so we wear it when we drive. When you're driving down the road and suddenly say to yourself, "Oh goodness, I think I'm going to have an accident!" (actually, most of us use a shorter two word phrase starting with "OH"), it's way too late to reach for your seat belt. You hope you never ever need it, but when you do, it's too lat...

Note:  These are NOT my creations.  I just cut the wood along the lines.  The creative part of this team is the lady behind the moon, my wife.   Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin Patch:     Several groups of kids had to climb into the Pumkin Patch to have their picture taken with the different characters.   My wife received her rewards from the smiles and admiring comments of the kids and parents.                                                             Vincent Valentine & Karate Kid                 Last year, it was quite a bit scarier with ghosts, spiders and webs all over the place.                             -

Well, I, along with about 1,000 othe people, crossed the bridge to the Grace Christian Church Wild Game Dinner in Georgetown, KY on April 18, 2010.  I had such a great time, I didn't note some of the events or booths but, when you combine these:  (alligator, frog legs, oysters, crawfish, deer, pheasant, wild turkey, and a couple more I don't remember along with all the fixins)                       And a full load of desserts                         With "Stormin Norman" (really that's what they call him)                           And the "Turtle Man" (Search YouTube for "Turtle Man" to find some of the stuff this guy does)                         Let us not forget the 2,000 servings of Dip N Dots ice cream                         Or Allen Gaines' "Orange Blossom Special" & "Midnight Ex...

Perusing the photos from yesterday afternoon's Georgetown, Kentucky Home Inspection brought to mind how technology has shrunk so much in the last 30 years or so.   It used to be that if you wanted to watch satellite TV you had to have one of these monstrosities hanging around your yard.   Look closely in the background at the left of the big dish.  Now all you have to have is that little grey dish mounted on your house somewhere.               And a quick Google search for miniature satellite dishes tells me that now you can put a tiny satellite dish (12") on your car or RV and have TV on the go.  Wouldn't do me much good as my Kentucky Home Inspector travels are usually alone and drivers aren't supposed to watch TV.                      Makes me think of how odd it must be for those wh...
