On Tuesdays, Realtors around the Washington DC area have their broker tour of new listings that have come on the market.   And it's really a fun time to see some amazing places.  And every week, one house seems to really wow me.

This week's Wow House is a Coldwell Banker listing at  5208 Carlton Street, in Bethesda.

Monday, blog buddy James Downing sent me an email inviting me to drop by this new listing of his,  so I did.  And at the front door, I was greeted, not by James who is on yet another vacation, but his very hard working partner, Christopher Suranna.

It's a craftsman house built in 2008. and it was inspired by architects Charles and Henry Greene.  There is even a coffee table book in the living room all about their work in the craftsman style.   

As soon as I saw the detail of the wooden staircase, I was impresses. 

This house is huge inside.  There is a kitchen with acres of counter space that could turn even me into a serious cook.  And off the kitchen, there is a large screened in porch for fun warm weather dining, and it leads to a beautifully landscaped rear yard with a built-in grill.

I have been previewing a lot of Bethesda homes for sale this week.  This house had gone under contract quickly when it first came on but the buyer backed out - sounds like cold feet.

Too bad.  This house is adorable and in great shape and will be a terrific house for someone who doesn't need a ton of space but wants what this area has to offer especially at such a good price.  I don't expect it will last long...

It is a small house but for the price it gets you into the Wood Acres school district and into a house that has a decent amount  of space you can use. There is potential for a third bedroom in the lower level and with the full bath down there it makes it an easy usage.

  There is very little on the market in this price range - only two homes under $700,000 if you are looking for the Wood Acres school district.  

The median in Glen Mar Park for 2009 was $729,500.  So even with the discount for the busier street, this is still very well priced house!

Location is really superb, even though it is on Sangamore.  There is quick access to two shopping centers with Giant and Safeway, Starbucks galore, The Trail, a bus stop steps away and a school system that is highly regarded and one of the main reasons property in this zip code is priced where it is.

I have been previewing a lot of homes this week in the Bethesda real estate market and this one deserved a second look.   Since I was last in it, the house is vacant and the floors have been nicely redone.  It made a big difference! 

There is no disguising that it's on Mass Ave and that it's small but Mass Ave can be blunted by the fact there is an access road right in front which offers an offset and extra parking.  As well, because Spider Park is literally right next door it's just so easy to pop over and play!  The back yard is really usable with room for playsets and b-b-q areas, nice to have in an area that can be somewhat hilly in the terrain.

It is a small house but for the price it gets you into the Wood Acres school district and into a house that has decent space you can use.  There is very little on the market in this price range.  The median in Glen Mar Park for 2009 was $729,500.  So finding a 3 bedroom with extra space and a bathroom on the main level is great.  They tried a price that was too high for the market but should be finding their niche in the current pricing.  It's tough to recover from the price reductions some time...

Still previewing homes this week....  This one was fun to go in and see!  It's truly lovely and has so much space.  The main level is well used space with a formal room in the front and a dining room the whole neighborhood could eat in ;)  Beautifully framed by columns and trim and painted in these soft neutrals anyone could live with. 

A main hallway keeps the flow going and somewhat separated so you don't just have one big common area - a blend of great room space all together in the back of the home and more formal separated space in the front.  The kitchen area in the back flows right into the family area and the back deck, which is good for entertaining.  Not much yard left by the time this much house is built on the lot but there is still green space that could house play equipment or patio space.

The upper level has bedrooms and baths in abundance - all with good space and light flowing in.  A neat feature is a common area that could be a library or upstairs den.  It's in the space above the porte-cochere so it might have been too narrow for a bedroom but makes the perfect place for any common usage!

The lower level just goes on and on!  Lots of room and walkout to the back yard.  There's a lot of natural light plus good overhead lighting that makes the space feel really good.  Truly you won't lack for space in this house.

Location can't be beat.  Shopping centers close by, the trail access is literally right down the road, the schools are highly regarded and getting into DC by public transit or car is a breeze.
