The Woodmoor Residents of Silver Spring have a real community sprirt when it comes to the Holidays.  They should be good at it, as it has been a Woodmoor tradition for at least 50 years.

Each year there is a Tree Lighting at a Huge tree that was planted many many years ago in the middle of Woodmoor Circle.  This happens to be the Largest Neighborhood Holiday Tree in Silver Spring at 60+ feet tall.  This year the tree was lit on December 2nd, 2012.  The turnout for this event in Woodmoor is huge.



Woodmoor also has a fierce competition every year for Best Decorated House.  If you want to get into the spirit - Take a drive through this Beautiful Neighborhood at this time of year and it definitely will happen!

The Woodmoor Bakery has all you need for celebrating Easter Week.  Their Egg cakes are the No. 1 seller during easter followed by Peter Rabbit and Bunny cakes.  The Parker House Rolls are hard to keep on the shelves around Easter too!  My personal favorite this time of year are the Hot Cross Buns.

Woodmoor and Indian Spring Village are the largest of the Legal Subdivisions in the Neighborhood known as Woodmoor. 

Through his Woodmoor Development Company George J. Moss was the Developer of Woodmoor.   George Moss was said to have personally checked out the lay of the land, trees and placement of the homes in Woodmoor, unlike many developers that do this on paper.  George Moss was a pioneer of this first large "planned community" in Silver Spring, MD.  He took a lot of risk in developing Woodmoor because at the time it was land that was "out" in a
sleepy rural farming area of Four Corners which was far from transportation and shopping in the 1930's.  The Woodmoor community is an established community of charming, picturesque brick colonials, cape cods and tudor style homes with classic ammenities such as fireplaces, hardwood floors and screened porches.

Woodmoor's first homes were built in the late 1930s.  In the late 1930's, Indian Spring Country Club (now the Silver Spring YMCA) and Argyle Country Club (now Sligo Creek Public Golf Course) were a big draw for this quiet suburban "bedroom" community.  Saint Bernadette's Church and the opening of Saint B's school drew many young families to the Community.
 
The cool, art deco style, circa 1940's Woodmoor Shopping Center at the edge of this beautiful neighborhood was recently restored.  The medium sized, 3 story Shopping Center still has quaint, locally owned, well known and long lasting mom and pop shops like the Woodmoor Pastry Shop, Santucci's Italian Deli, theWatchPocket and Hoover Fisher's Florist to name a few.  The Silver Spring Stage has been operating for many years in the basement of the Woodmoor Shopping Center that  I hear, was once a bowling alley.  More well know chains such as a CVS Drugstore, a Starbucks and Subway are in this mix of stores. I love browsing in the Tuesday Morning Outlet

The Northwest Branch Park and it's stream runs along the northern Boundary of Woodmoor and offers a rich opportunity for recreation and nature watching for Woodmoor Residents.  Woodmoor is a neighbor of the Northwest Branch and has it's own Woodmoor Green Team.

A pretty Neighborhood of 700+ Single Family Homes located in the Four Corners Area of Silver Spring, Md in 20901.  Woodmoor brings to mind, older charming Cape Cods, Colonials mixed with a few post-war Ramblers and Split Levels on neighborly, shady, tree lined streets.

Good Afternoon,

This week I wanted to introduce you to the wonderful community of Woodmoor.  Woodmoor is in the Four Corners area of Silver Spring, conviniently located near Route 29, University Boulevard, and 495.  It really is the kind of area that is close to it all, and yet far away from it all at the same time.  In 2006 it was named by Washingtonian Magazine as the "greatest place to live."

On the outskirts of the neighborhood features the Woodmoor Shopping Center with the infamous Santuccis Deli, Starbucks, a beer & wine store, CVS, Bank of America, Subway, and other local stores.  On the northwest corner there is Fajita Coast (Tex Mex), Peruvian Chicken Restaurant and "The Pub."  Nearby there are additional restaurants & gas stations.  

Woodmoor is home to Saint Bernadette's Church well known by the locals as "St. B's", who is lead by the wonderful Monsignor Smith.  Also in the neighborhood is Pine Crest Elementary School & Montgomery Blair High School.
