Fall Home Preparation: Roof InspectionSummer is slowly slipping away in Silver Spring, Maryland so I thought I would send out a few Fall Home Preparation tips. Today's tip is on why you should get a Roof Inspection. Why Get a Roof Inspection Weak roofs spell trouble. Remember those particularly heavy snowstorms last winter? Or the rain that drenched everything several times over the past few months? Those are the very things that will spell trouble come winter. You don't want to wait until the snow leaks through to realize you have weak spots in your roof. Test, clean and level the thermostat. It is important to be sure that the thermostat is functioning properly by ensuring that the temperature you set is actually the one your furnace will produce. Also, if the thermostat has a liquid m...

I often work with clients who find themselves outgrowing their home. Sometimes these are couples who have welcomed their first child into the world, and other times it’s the simple accumulation of “stuff” over time which has crowded their house.   While I’m always glad to help homeowners make the “upgrade” to a bigger home (and now is a pretty good time to buy a lot of house for comparatively little money), I’m also interested in helping them make the most of the home they have today. Given the amount of time we spend in our homes, it makes sense to work towards a clutter-free, organized, peaceful environment.   Sometimes I work with clients who find the things they own have ended up “owning them.” What we own and what we actually use are often very different, and what we don’t use can ...

South Silver Spring is triangular shaped and is bounded by Newell Street and Blair Mill Road on the northwest, the B&O Railroad right-of-way on the east and the District of Columbia line on the southwest. The South Silver Spring area is a part of the Silver Spring Central Business District (CBD). It is a combination of small scale commercial buildings and a scattering of high rise office buildings. After years of decay, South Silver Spring is being transformed into an exciting mixed use neighborhood with high tech businesses, arts oriented enterprises, new restaurants and over 1,000 new housing units. Fall Home Preparation: Lawn and Garden PreparationSummer is slowly slipping away in Silver Spring, Maryland so I thought I would send out a few Fall Home Preparation tips. Today's tip is on Lawn and Garden Preparation.Lawn and Garden Preparation Get started early! The rule of thumb is to start preparing your lawn and garden for the winter weather at least 6 weeks before the first freeze hits. It will allow enough time for any work you do to be absorbed into your ground before the cold weather makes the dirt rock solid. Now's the time to feed your grass. This is the perfect time to fertilize your grass, with enough room to get in two applications. Also, use this time to re-seed any damaged lawn areas. If you re-seed, be sure to cover the seeds with a compost top-layer for protection from...

Summer Safety: Pool SafetyIt's summertime out here in Silver Spring, Maryland so I thought I would send out a few Summer Safety tips. Today's tip is on Pool Safety.Pool Safety Tips Keep children supervised at all times. Children should never swim alone. There should always be someone within arms reach of small children. Inexperienced swimmers should wear floaties or other protective swimwear. Keep the pool clean. If it is a residential pool, keep it clear of debris (leaves, branches, trash) that can easily snag a swimmer. Make sure the water is tested regularly and has the proper chemical balances. Also be sure to maintain the circulation and filtration systems. These are things that can prevent earaches and skin rashes, among other much worse conditions. Pools should be properly secure...

Market Report for the 20901 zip-code of Silver Spring, MD: January - June 2013 What a year 2013 is shaping up to be for the Silver Spring, MD Real Estate market! A "Spring-selling" season that started January 1st, a quick transition to a seller's market, low inventory levels, multiple offer situations, the return of escalation clauses and then, a sudden jump in interest rates ... this about sums up the first half of the year! Did all this activity also translate to higher average SOLD prices? Most definitely! As a matter of fact, the average sold price for the period January - June has jumped considerably in 2013 to $406,846. April '13 was the month with the lowest avg. sold price ($372,483) and June '13 the highest thus far this year ($434,329). June was also the month with the highes...
