We have not done this in a long time, so when my son asked me if I wanted to go to a model train show...Yea! I said. I played around some with the models when I was in the pet/hobby business, but that was 20 years ago.  I still have my train from when I was 2...and it is in fantastic shape still.     I have noticed the change in this hobby.  The electronics.  As with everything else, the Electronics allow the hobbist to do more stuff a lot easier.   While the young kids drool about having a train like that...  They don't have the artistry or the money to build the elabrate system that were shown.  When it comes right down to Model Railroading...   It is big kids playing with expensive toys! I was asked by a lady looking at one of the setups..."how long does it take to finish a setup lik...

As everyone knows, I am a Nature nut.  No, not a tree hugger, but I love the outdoors. Growing up on the farm gave the great insight of the great outdoors with the help of parents and grandparents to name just a few.  I now share as much of this with my grand kids as I can. Today's 45 min walk yielded some interesting things... The first was this cast off Deer antler.  Whitetail deer shed their antlers every year.  Early march in Minnesota.  This antler has been laying in this spot for at least 2 winters.  (I seen it in Nov of 08 but just didn't get my grand daughter out to find it until today.   The timing needed to be right for this find.) We looked at how the rodents had chewed on the antler to get the needed calcium and other minerals they need. Next this animal skull. I KNOW...some...

The weather is turning nice and some of the Golf courses up here in the Nort country are showing signs of life.  It is time to start the lessons.  Here is the first one to remember... The School teacher was taking her first lesson... Is the word spelled P-U-T or P-U-T-T, she asked the instructor. P-U-T-T is correct, he replied. Put means to place a thing where you want it...PUTT is a vain way of attempting to do the same thing. I was told by my grandfather that 'Golf is a way of ruining a beautiful walk!'

I needed some plumbing done on  a property that we bought.  We found a local guy, (we stay local whenever possible).  A master plumber working for himself with no employees. Steve and his wife own Drip Drop plumbing.  I called and told him what we needed.  He came out gave a bid and did the work the next day as promised. Then the invoice arrived....UNDER HIS ESTIMATE!!!! When was the last time you had that happen.  He did all the work he promised and still billed us less than what he quoted. Steve did a fantastic job.  Neat as a pin also. Call Steve if you are in the Rush City area or neighboring towns and see for yourself. 651-210-9175 will get you directly to Steve.

With the Government getting into health care, many people wonder what the care will be like.  While this post isn't to debate that issue, this may make you think and maybe chuckle! A man who had just gone through a very complicated surgery was complaining about a bump on his head and a headache.  Since his surgery was an intestinal one...this was a cause for concern. Finally, the nurse thinking it could be some kind of post-op complication, asked the Dr. about it. The Dr. assured the nurse that he was OK and that he did really have a bump on his head. "Half way throught the surgery, we run out of anesthetic" the Dr. Said.

Daddy, How was I born ...asked a little boy? Well, the father thought, He's going to find out someday anyway! "You see, your mother and I met on an internet chat room.  I then set up a date via E-Mail with your Mom to meet at a cyber cafe.  We sneaked into a secluded room where your Mother agreed to download my hard drive.  As soon as I was ready to upload...we discovered that neither of us had used a firewall, but it was to late to hit the Delete button.  Nine months later...a little pop-up appeared and said..." YOU'VE GOT MALE! Have a great Evening!

Ok, this is kind of a Rant!   I am driving down the freeway and I drive about 65, 5 miles under the posted limit.  My fuel economy is 12% better at 65 than at 75.   When gas was pushing $4 a gallon, most everyone was crying, now they are driving like Raped Apes!  I feel like my van is up on Blocks! Did we learn nothing?  There were a lot of reasons for the price gouging, but, conserving is also good on the pocket book.  The world is yelling that the economic conditions are so poor...Hell, look at the freeway and the speeds and I don't believe it.  If money is so tight, why would anyone want to spend more on fuel than neccessary? It will take a real well rounded approach to keep energy at a modest cost, but it won't happen if we don't try and do our part! And what is it with all the extr...

A friend of mine asked me to go on a day hunting trip.  Part of the day was going to be spent in pursuit of squirrels.  This can be very challenging to just see the critters in the big oaks.  Well, Max brought along his dog and said the dog will help us. We were only in the woods a min, when the dog went up to tree and put one paw on the trunk, Max said that there was one squirrel in that tree, and sure enough there was! A bit later, the dog put 2 paws on a trunk of a tree, and Max said that there are 2 squirrels in this tree, and there was. A few min later, the dog picked up a stick and started to shake it and growl... I asked what was going on. Max replied, that there were more squirrels up in this tree than you can shake a stick at!!

The buzz is on statewide, Bulrush Golf Course in Rush City is one of the premier spots to spend the day chasing your passion!  Located just 45 minutes north of the metro, 15 minutes from Grand Casino, and minutes from championship fishing on both Rush Lakes, this course offers challenges, beauty and a golf pro to help your game improve.  Designed by George Shotridge, the course opened under the name Brookside in 2002.  After a rocky beginning, new owners have taken over the course, improved it immensely, and added a great eating establishment and club house, the Rush Hour Bar and Grill.  With Senior discount days, friendly down home service, and beautiful scenery, the course is a must for golfers of all levels and ages.

About an hour north of Minneapolis/St. Paul, the small town of Rush City sits between North Branch and Hinckly on your way to Duluth.  A sleepy little town yet, it boasts two gas stations, one on  the freeway, and one in town!  Rush City has managed to change little in the past 20 years, with the exception of new housing, and a great addition of a new golf course with homes on the grounds.  A city owned aquatics center gives the local kids great activitiy in the hot months, and nearby East and West Rush Lake provide boating, fishing and other recreational opportunities.

If you fish at all in the Central Minnesota area, you are probably already familiar with East and West Rush Lakes.  Situated just a few miles east of the Rush City exit on County Road 1, East Rush Lake is the first large body of water you will come upon.  With a large population of northern, muskie, bass, sunfish and crappies on both lakes, East Rush Lake is much more preferred by the trophy fish hunters!  Near state record muskies have been taken each year, with the annual DNR lake evaluation going on this week.  Some fish in those nets looked like paddle boats! The East Rush Lake Access has posted a shallow water warning, but in a very odd, and amusing to some, spot!  East Rush is much less structured than West Rush Lake, but both are joined through a very navigable channel, which also...

After a long, hard day Sunday, I dragged home just to have the cell phone ringing.  I was bone tired, but new ads are out and my clients deserve my best.  It was a friend who I had sold a lakehome to a couple of years ago, someone who I so appreciate having come into my life through this real estate profession!  He and his wife have been a gift well after the papers have been signed, as have many of my former clients, now friends.  Anyway, he was out on the pontoon (already), and in a northern bay on West Rush Lake.  The white pelicans were in the bay by the hundreds!  I scooped up the kids and husband, re-energized, grabbed the camera and sped up in the truck.  We drove to the farthest point in Frandsen County Park (just west of Rush City), and could see the flocks, just out of camera ...

One of the best kept secrets of Chisago County is Goose Lake.  About 1000 acres of combined North and South lakes, the southern most empties into a chain comprised of Rabour, Mandall and Horseshoe.  Pretty much land locked, this lakes secrets are guarded by the homeowners, and rightly so!  Walleye abound, as do panfish..which have been heavily fished during the ice fishing season.  A new law now limits the crappie limit to 5 each..slowing the incredible pressure on the lake, a move approved and welcomed by the lake association.  Goose is not a lake for fast rides on the jet ski, but more for slow rides on the pontoon.  Less developed than Rush, it has a quieter, slower paced feel, which is just fine for those who enjoy it's views and peacefulness.

Just west of Rush City the joined lakes of East and West Rush combine to give uncounted anglers access to some of the finest fishing in the state!  No brag, just fact!  With crappies, sunnies, walleye, bass, northern, muskie at the top of the list, perch and our famous sheepheads are right behind!  With almost 3000 acres of water, several islands, a bird sanctuary, Rush Lake is easily enjoyed for a full days pontoon ride without seeing the same spot twice.  A new resort provides food and drink with welcoming docks, the local country store provides bait, tackle and libations for the day on the lake.  Many people come and decide to stay, and with the hour commute to both downtowns, Rush Lake is a wonderful haven from the cities pace.  Letting the commute wash away the day, homeowners retu...
