Question: I was hired as a live-in property manager for a two family dwelling in brooklyn, ny. This was verbal, no written contract. I had resided there for 5 months. I had immediately put in work, managed removal of former tenant, leased out to current tenant, hired plumbers, painters,construction personnel all of this, out of pocket,in good faith, and eventual blessing from owner. my compensation was the waivering of my rental payments and reimbursement of out of pocket expenses for repairs. all verbal no written agreement.
Currently, the owner verbally gave me a 30 day notice and trying avoid reimbursement of my out of pocket expenses. The gas service is off due to nonpayment. There's a heavy leak from the roof through a light fixture (light bulb).
The tenant is refusing to pay rent due to the no gas, no hot water and the terrible leak .

Question: I have a credit score at around 720 and a steady job with the State as an attorney that I do not think I am going to lose in this economic meltdown.
