It is an actual island this Great Island hidden community with Narragansett RI 02882 which is a stone's throw from the scenic fishing port of Point Judith and Galilee, Rhode Island.  Going down the Galilee Escape Road (aptly named for a getaway adventure especially if you are catching the Block Island boat from here), you must turn right and go over a small bridge that brings you into the entrance to Great Island.

Surrounded by water with rolling small hills in this hidden community, the houses range from shoreline cottages to Mcmansions along the myriad of roads that define this Great Island.  Many families have had their land and homes passed on to others in the family while others have bought houses in the same neighborhood and eventually renovated them.  What was formerly a basic cottage has given way to a newly appointed and built home to live in and enjoy year round for many residents.

While there certainly are a number of summer rentals by the week and month on this Great Island, it has turned into more of a year round community for residents to enjoy.  You have the fishing port of Point Judith down the road, the Block Island ferry departs from Point Judith several times a day and the wonderful beaches along Sand Hill Cove Road all have something to offer the locals and visitors.  And yes, there are the quintessential seafood restaurants like George's of Galilee which attract all.  Don't forget to have your RI chowder and clam cakes when you are down here.

Visiting clients who live on Great Island in the late afternoon on a sunny to cloudy day, it was wonderful to take some pictures from their backyard of the Great Island coastline.  As they do, many of the waterfront residents on the Great Salt Pond have deep water docks to enjoy.  They have their boats right there at their own dock when they have the urge to travel by water.  This is a location that is unique and breathtaking to view the sunset from your deck in the early evening....every evening.  Prices have come down a bit in the current real estate market on some of the homes on the market here but this area does seem to retain its value.
