The Linear Trail in Northeast Tennessee is a delightful 8 mile round trip walking and biking trail in Northeast Tennessee.  It is one of my favorites and I have ignored it this past year when Johnson City opened up their new Tweetsie Trail, which is also quite nice, plus closer to home! I've put this quick video together while we were out walking today.  Oh it was so nice to be able to shed the sweatshirt!

Buffalo Pinnacle Trail in Unicoi Tennessee is a great 4.8  uphill trail to the fire tower.  Plan at least 4-5 hours to hike this trail, it is a steady uphill trek. I have hiked up to the tower one time, and it was beautiful.  We decided to hike Buffalo Pinnacle Trail late afternoon Friday and did not plan it well.  The weather was cold, windy and the higher we went, the deeper the snow.  (I had my running shoes on, like I said, didn't plan this.)  We did not make it to the top, but enjoyed the time we had.  I filmed most of it, I hope you enjoy the video.  We will go back, when we are more prepared! Buffalo Pinnacle Trail...enjoy

The Linear Trail in Erwin Tennessee is one of my favorite places in the Tri Cities to spend a few hours in nature.  It is a well lit trail with paved trails along the Nolichuckey river.  From the start to finish it is 4 miles long, which is perfect if you are training for a distance event, or just out for a day away from the office.  Along the trail you will run along many Egrets and large turtles.  It's quite common to see 6-10 turtles sunning themselves along a large branch.  I train for my Susan G Komen walk on this trail.  I can get 8 miles in on one trail.  That is especially good, I don't get bored, the trees really provide great shade.   The Linear Trail Erwin Tennessee, a great trail, a great afternoon! For more information on the Tri-cities, be sure to look us up on line.

2509 Upper Stone Mountain Drive is indeed a keeper!  Such an amazing home. located at the most perfect spot on Upper Stone Mountain, just past the highest peak and views of mountains and very private lot.  The neighborhood is wonderful, quiet, peaceful, private. Location PERFECT! The trees on the back of property connect to National forest.   Can You Tell the Difference?   See if you can tell the difference between mountains in these states.  All these photographs were taken during our (Kwee Huset & her husband) long overdue vacation at the end of June 2014. We saw small sawmills in almost every state.       Arkansas - Rich Mountain lies in the Ouachita National Forest     Oklahoma – Rich Mountain     Kentucky – 55mph through mountains      Tennessee - after Zane Whitson Welcome Center near Erwin                    North Carolina - on the way to Asheville

My 3 day 60 mile walk, for Susan G Komen, is in a week and a half and I have had to bump up the training to 10 and 12 mile training walks.  I am incorporating community trails that are for walkers .runners and bikers.  The trail I've been walking the past few days is called the Erwin Linear Trail. It is 4 1/4 miles one way through streams, bogs, shade, and even the Unicoi County Dog Shelter.  It is paved with asphault in places, but mostly packed down earth.  A rest area stop 2 miles in and a very safe and friendly place to walk, run or bike in Unicoi Tennessee.  My walk this year is in Cleveland Ohio and is July 28-30.  If you are a Cleveland AR'er, please come visit me!  I'll need all the support I can get. All proceeds go to Susan G. komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.

I am especially excited about this Sunday because it is right smack in the middle of a holiday weekend.  We went to Rock Creek Falls today and hiked.  (I blogged about that in another blog below) The Rhododendrons were in bloom and I found this one to be especially beautiful.  So much for speechless.  ( I have a problem with that anyways!!)!

We hiked Rattlesnake Ridge in Rock Creek -Cherokee National Forest, Unicoi, Tennessee today.  What a hike that was.  7 miles round trip (not counting the mile into the trail) and the way up was exactly that, UP.  It was really fun..and hot.  Here is what we encountered about half way in...  Okay, never seen this before, I was a tad bit freaked out.  We registered.  The path forward was a a tree covered canopy and I swear I heard bears the rest of the way through the hike!!  Actually, on the way back down, we think we did hear one, than it sounded like he pulled down a tree.  (The tree came down)!  My pace really picked up! The hike was beautiful.  I have hiked Rock Creek Falls before, but this was the first time hiking Rattlesnack Ridge. Northeast Tennessee is such a great place to adve...

TROUT FISHERMEN  UNITE  - Save the hatchery One of the things that attracts people to Northeast Tennessee is that they want to enjoy the lakes and rivers - and the great fishing, especially trout.    Most of the high-quality trout eggs for hatcheries in the whole Southeast come from the Erwin National Fish Hatchery, which is in danger of being closed as one way to make a tiny cut in the budget.   I didn't realize until recently that this was more than just a local issue.   The economic value of this facility has enormous effects all over the Southeast - on jobs, tourism, retail sales, taxes, etc. A recent study calculated the economic return was $67 for every tax dollar spent, including 3,277 jobs and $85.2 million in wages.   Fishermen everywhere can appreciate that it's more than a ...

Tennessee is such a beautiful State.  One of the really cool aspects on Tennessee that a lot of people do not realize is that Tennessee is very different from one end of the State to the other.  Northeast, Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol are mountainous and surrounded by lakes and rivers.  Nashville is the center of the State and boosts a great city and deep country roots, Opryland and also beautiful countryside, hiking and lakes. (I'm not trying to leave anything out, I just don't know Nashville and Memphis as well as I know Tri-Cities- please feel free to add about these regions in comments) Memphis is relatively flat and borders our western friends, Mississippi and Arkansas. Also, a very rich in culture and music area.  It's funny though, if I were to get in my car to drive to Me...

Northeast Tennessee is a wonderful place to live and play if you love the Mountains. Personally, that is one of my favorite features of the area.  Today we were down around Flag Pond, which is one exit from North Carolina, about a half hour to Asheville. The Mountain we climbed was steep and had patches of snow.  The property has 24 acres on it and our team currently has it on the market for $100,000. We found 3 level building sites, and views that go on forever!  Enjoy some of my pictures from today. (I left out the one of me falling and sliding through the mud). Creek bed running through property  Mountain Views from half way up. This is one of my favorites. And thanks for visiting Mountainaire Court, Unicoi Tennessee

Straight up the mountain, slowly does it, for this hike is steep and rough.  It is well worth it though.  Winter is my favorite time to hike, this paticular trail has many creek crossings and at times very difficult to cross without getting wet!  (you don't have to get wet - just be careful) Summer time is fun to go rock hopping. This picture is at the top of the water falls.  We have had a lot of snow and cold tempatures this winter. Not the norm for us, but I am loving it! This is about a 3 1/2 to 4 hour round trip hike.  A little longer if you're stopping to enjoy.  Unaka Mountains- Unicoi County- Tennessee
