April 19 -21, the Austin Junior’s 17 Cedar Park Girls Volleyball team  showed up in Dallas at the 2013 Lone Star Classic USA Division tournament and scored big! They walked away with the GOLD winning the tournament and assuring them a spot at the Nationals which will be held in Dallas, Texas this summer: http://www.visitdallas.com/includes/events/event/18003/.

The Mizuno Lone Star Classic™ is the largest of the USAV Junior National Qualifiers and one of the largest youth volleyball tournaments in the world! The tournament continues to grow in size and strength of competition. Last year, the tournament had 1,446 teams compete and over 60,000 spectators cheer them on! 

Coach Ashley Atkinson (Leander High School Head Volleyball Coach) and Coach Kelly McCarter (Vandergrift High School Head Volleyball Coach) lead these girls to victory!!

Our granddaughter; Hailey Stout #2 was thrilled with their win! She missed the NW Austin Westwood High School prom over the week-end but after her team won the tournament decided it was worth it! We are so proud of her and her team! Check out Hailey's website.

Homes are again selling swiftly in Cedar Park TX, nearly approaching 2007 sales numbers (shown below). As activity rises in Central Texas in general, Austin TX more specifically, and also in key suburban areas like Cedar Park TX, the improving market will be welcome news to sellers who have been waiting almost 5 years for some good news.

Average Days On Market in 2012 was only 59 days, which is less than two months and a strong indicator of a sellers market. DOM average in 2011 was 71, still healthy but not nearly as strong. About the area
Cedar Park TX is a city in Travis and Williamson counties in Texas. The city is a major suburb of Austin TX, the center of which is approximately 16 miles to the southeast.

The Cedar Park area was inhabited by Native American tribes including the Tonkawa, the Lipan Apache and the Comanche. In the mid-19th century it was known as Running Brushy. In 1873 George and Harriet Cluck, after having run cattle up the Chisholm Trail for years, bought 329 acres of land that included the Running Brushy spring and which formed the core of the community that would one day become Cedar Park.

Ten years later, the railroad came through. The Austin & Northwest Railroad, which connected the state capitol with the cities of Burnet and Lampasas to the north, was finished in 1882 and passed through Running Brushy and the Cluck ranch. The community was at this point renamed Bruggerhoff. In 1887, Emmett Cluck (son of George and Harriet) changed the community name to Cedar Park.

Cedar Park changed little until the 1950s and 1960s when housing subdivisions began to be built, spurred by the growth of nearby Austin. On February 24, 1973, the citizens of Cedar Park voted to incorporate. In 1978 they created the Cedar Park library.

Cedar Park is served mostly by Leander Independent School District, and is home to the Cedar Park High Timberwolves and Vista Ridge High School Rangers. Two neighborhoods, Riviera Springs and parts of Avery Ranch, feed into the Round Rock Independent School District.

The city is home to the Cypress Creek campus of Austin Community College, which was expanded in 2008. The Texas Psychological Association is also located in Cedar Park TX.

Fun facts

• Cedar Park was incorporated in 1973 with a council-manager system of local government.

• Cedar Park is home to two top-level minor league professional teams: The Texas Stars of the American Hockey League play. Also, Austin Toros of the NBA Development League.

• A public skate park facility opened in 2010. The 15,000-square-foot facility features a large bowl, mini bowl and modern street course.

• In December 2007, Cedar Park Regional Medical Center opened becoming the first major medical center in Cedar Park.

NW Austin, TX ~ Cedar Park Farmers Market ~ Mardi Gras Style

Every Saturday rain or shine the Cedar Park Farmers Market opens at 9am in NW Austin at the Lakeline Mall parking lot (behind Sears and Dillards) and lasts until 1pm.  This past Saturday the theme was Mardi Gras and everyone wore beads and even a few wore their masks!  The childrens corner was busy with youngsters making decorations for Mardi Gras celebrations.  JP and the Zydeco Angels kept everyone jiving to the Zydeco beat!

The booths were all busy selling their produce from Texas farms and ranches. It's a good crowd that comes out to experience the "loco" trend..."Locavores" are those that eat food grown locally whenever they can!  They even sell t-shirts with their logo!

I  managed to buy some home grown tomatoes from Flintrock Hill Farms (yummy) and a loaf of Sweetish Hill 9 grain bread (my favorite)!! I'll be back for more next week!
