It's amazing how much debris there is from Hurricane Ike.  As a person that tries to be GREEN I have thought often in the past few weeks how unreal it will be for all of it to go to a landfill.  Just the amount of trees, leaves, etc. alone is just amazing. Over the past few weeks they have been picking up only 'GREEN' debris.  Meaning, anything that grows.  Trees, leaves, etc.  The other debris such as fences, siding, roofing materials etc. will be picked up at a later date.  Currently some of the Tree Debris is being chopped up in a mulching facility but there is just sooo much.  It hardly makes a dent when you take the supply and demand. According to the Houston Chronicle the City of Houston has approximately 5.6 Million Cubic Yards of Tree Waste that they would like to be recycled. ...

I took this photo of  FM2094 in front of Target/Home Depot in Kemah, TX Tonight, the Houston Symphony, under the direction of Hans Graff, performed at Grace Community Church for the relief efforts of victims (like the ones above) of Hurricane Ike.  Their performance was nothing short of magical.  Even though not in their home of Jones Hall, it was such a powerful performance.  I would love to see them more, it's funny how you don't take advantage of the arts when you live so close.  I forgot how much I love the symphony and arts in general.  There was just something about it, it gave me goosebumps, and could even make you teary eyed at times.  I think because it's so beautiful, so perfect.  They also had a video of Hurricane Ike that they pla...

Consumers watch the same thing on television that we do as Real Estate professionals. What is interpreted understood might be entirely different! Lately I have been receiving some new questions that I've never faced before, after all, one media outlet says this is the worst economic times since "The Great Depression." Hardly anything to laugh at, but certainly worthy of discussion. All walks of life from all sorts of education backgrounds share different concerns and have different questions. I have however, noticed some of the same questions being asked over & over again. Provide an answer to any question you like! I thought posting these questions to all of you might provide a terrific opportunity to hear what the best of the best have to say from around the country.. 1.  I hear ...

I am sure we are all wondering what will happen with our Financial and Economic future?  The HUD Department has extended the $100 Down Program for our surrounding Area.  This program also allows for the closing costs to be included in the loan.  This is a very affordable option to many First Time Home Buyers that are struggling to afford a home.  This would allow many buyers the opportunity to buy during this "slow market" it's a prime time to buy right now in today's market!!! Don't forget to ask about the $7500 Tax Credit for First Time Home Buyers.  Either or both programs would be great for any qualified buyers. Our market is making many changes for the worse but it's not all bad news... Frank Marta PH: 713-373-0345

When I decided to create an additional site apart from my original static site, I wanted to develop a Wordpress blog site, because I believe that the blog is the best way to interact with others on the internet, and that Wordpress was the best platform to use. I was not disappointed. Being a curious soul, I started to examine SEO, but my true interest was how could we in the real estate industry take the blog format into a further development that would best serve our consumers. I found that with a little determination, a little knowledge of code, and a little patience that I could make my site a one stop shop. I have added a forum to allow visitors to have their own voice. I am creating a visual library to help people see some aspects of home inspections. I added the store to help you ...

I remember hearing after Hurricane Ike came through our area that some 2.1 million customers were out of power.  Just two weeks afterwards power has been restored to almost all the areas where it can still be restored.  I know there are still pockets without power but they become less ever day.  One of my clients wrote the letter below and asked me if I would post it on Active Rain.  She very eloquently Thanks all our recovery workers that made this possible in such a short time.  Please take the time to read her letter and give our service workers a big thumbs up. Dear fellow Texan, American and Canadian friends: We in southeast Texas are so grateful for the outpouring of assistance we have received during the past two weeks since Hurricane Ike roared through our communities.  To all m...

It has been about 10 days sense Ike hit Houston Texas and I an amazed when I drive down a neighborhood street, my sister and I live in Oak Forest on different streets, and I have been staying at my sisters because she has electricity now but not all home have power yet in her area. What has amazed me in this situation that in this area is in is seeing how a people can come together to help neighbors that they may have never met before. One person was able to purchase 4 bags of ice, the stores limit per customer at the time, but gives two bags to the people 2 doors down. The young couple next door to my sister has a generator and offers to run an extension cord to her house. As power is being restored to some folks, I see more electrical cords show up running from one house that has powe...

No Cell Phone Status.... Maybe I'm not cool enough. In our market of 27,000 plus members we have a fair amount of agents that flat out "refuse" to post their cell phone numbers on the Mls. Instead they post an office number that they do not work out of! If an assistant does answer she's usually isn't licensed and is of virtually of little use as she can't answer many questions. She always says things like... "let me call him and see." What really irritates me is when the unlicensed assistant attempts to present "counters" amendments and basically handle the entire transaction on behalf of the agent, all the while the agent is "busy." I've closed 12 deals at once - all by myself & played golf, went out to eat and had time for family & friends. If I can do it, so can you! Here's what you ...

The short answer to this one is 'Sure, Why Not?' Let's talk about 'Rising Water' vs. 'Flooding' Houston, Tx is Nicknamed the Bayou City because we have water, creeks, bayous everywhere!  However, we also have phenomenal Flood Control.  Even outside the City Limits the County has a Flood Control Department that handles keeping the lines of drainage open.  But then you take a look at your Homeowner's Insurance policy to see exactly what is covered.  All of them say that water damage is covered except for 'Rising Water'.  Those two words can be very vague but essentially any flooding is caused by water rising whether it be an all out flood from a creek, river, etc. rising out of its banks or just a clogged up street drain causing the water to 'rise' in to your front yard. When the water se...
