The neighborhood is a vibrant and rapidly growing community just a short 20-minute drive from downtown Spokane. The neighborhood is a shining gem known for its robust data infrastructure and strategic access to I-90. The area is a magnet for high-tech industries, corporate headquarters, light manufacturers, and entrepreneurial start-ups. Okay, not so wordless this Wednesday. But the photo says more than I will...I was in Spokane, Washington to teach a few classes May 14 and 15. One of the things I love to do is crack a few jokes before I start a conversation about Twitter... Many who don’t tweet do share a myth. “I don’t use Twitter. It doesn’t make any sense. Like why should I care what you had for lunch?”Of course Twitter is much more than sharing photos of a meal, but I like starting the convo this way because it breaks the tension and gives us opportunity to share smiles and a laugh, and it should. We’re human. We make assumptions all the time about a lot of things we know nothing about. So let’s have some fun with it and explore.Regardless of what we may think, science tells us the images online that hold our atten...

I hope all of my fellow ActiveRainers had a wonderful of a Valentine's Day as Laura and I did. I just thought I would share our wonderful evening with everybody, and would love to hear how you celebrated the night! Since Laura is British, you know we had to start off with some booze. We went to a cool little martini bar in downtown Spokane called Bistango Martini Lounge. After cocktails we went to see Jack Ryan at the River Park Square movie theater about a block away from the bar. The movie was great. I am a huge Tom Clancy fan and Jack Ryan is my all-time favorite character. I highly recommend this movie, action packed from start to finish and you just never take your eyes off the screen. After the movie, we went to dinner. Spencer's for Steaks and Chops has some of the very best stea...

Once in a while, the fairly insignificant little city I live in, Spokane Washington, manages to hurl itself into the headlines and secure a high ranking spot in the WTF Hall Of Fame. Thanks to a couple of morons, I mean local business owners who just opened a daiquiri bar, Spokane is making a run for the WTF World Championship, battling it out with Sochi. It seems as though it seemed like a good idea to these two idiots to name one of their drink Date Grape Koolaid. Well the backlash has been huge, hitting the New York Daily News, national news broadcasts and getting the attention of bloggers all around the world. There is even a Boycott Spokane Downtown Daiquiri Factory page on Facebook, which I invite you all to like, just to help make the point. The owners have been asked to change t...

Walt Worthy's new hotel project has left the gate!  When complete it should have 15 stories, and a new garage with about 900 parking spaces.  Expect to walk a little farther if you have become a regular user of the parking lot here...   The hotel will be located conveniently accross from the convention center with more than 700 rooms and 70,000 square feet.  Nice to see this kind of growth in Spokane!

It is almost time for The Largest 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Earth - Spokane Hoopfest!  It is hard to believe that a fairly small town tucked away on the upper left-hand side of the map, not really near anywhere or anything, with a population of under 300,000 people is home to such a huge event as Hoopfest. Every summer, the last weekend in June, Spokane shuts down 42 city blocks to make way for 450 basketball courts that will host over 7,000 teams from around the country... and probably the world.  This year it is being held June 29th and 30th and we are expecting a record turn out for the event.  Spokane Hoopfest is an event for everybody, all are welcome and there are brackets for anybody who wants to play starting from youth entering the 3rd grade.  Even Special Olympics and wh...
