Being part of a family that is heavily involved in real estate, it was only a matter of time before I would be drawn in. Not wanting to follow the pack I decided that my skills would be best utilized on the lending side of the fence.
Lending in today's environment is, by far, more challenging than when I started in 2004. Having never relied on "subprime" lending for my business I was fairly well insulated from most of the turmoil that occured between 2007 and 2010. As I have always focused on the borrower's needs ( present and future ) my conversations with clients have changed little in 5 years.
As a loan officer not only is it my responsibility to ensure my clients get competitive rates and fees, it is also my fiduciary duty to see that they understand all of their options. The importance of understanding a clients financial goals is paramount.
Working for Directors Mortgage gives me access to conventional / conforming, jumbo and FHA/VA residential home loans. We are also a USDA rural housing lender. As it stands today there are really only two 100% LTV programs, VA and USDA. It is nice to have both in my arsenal.
Contrary to the general media opinion it is not difficult to get a loan today. What is important to remember is borrowers can no longer simply have a desire to buy a home, they must be able to prove their ability to repay the loan.
Because of the increased scrutiny in lending it is important to work with a lender that knows the challenges we face and has the ability to explain it in terms anyone can understand.
