Ron and Alexandra Seigel thank you! The data is out there, just up to people to use it to improve their business

Absolutely a great point! Important to know how to market a property like that.

Margaret Goss thank you for the insight! And your daughter supports the stat on under-35 women being a substantial sector of the market too.

Feb 13, 2017 09:34 AM

Cody Carmen

Thank you Donna Jarock . It is clear you saw the trend and identified a demographic that is rarely marketed to.

Feb 13, 2017 09:35 AM

Beth Bromund

The advertising can't single out any specific marital status under our state law either.

Feb 13, 2017 09:41 AM

Cody Carmen

Beth Bromund thank you for the insight! Important for real estate professionals to avoid trouble and find the legal workarounds.

Li Read I would have to agree the demographic statistics support that claim. Homeownership can so clearly be an excellent financial decision for single people.

Beth Bromund and across different age ranges. Definitely eye-opening figures for me.

Thanks Jeff Dowler. I don't foresee many markets moving away from married couple-domination, but it's important to see that in most age ranges single women are the next most common buyer. That's a lot of market share.

Cody Carmen

Mary Weiss thank you so much for your input! Sounds like real estate professionals who learn the best way to reach these potential buyers have a very solid niche in their future

Dick Greenberg thanks for the info on your market. I definitely agree that there is business to be had if this information is implemented into a targeting strategy. It will never be the largest buying demographic, but it will likely always be substantial enough to remember.

Great insight Mary Jo Quay! I think we will probably be seeing more of what you described, too

So true! & nobody smokes Virginia Slims any longer (or at least I do not know anyone).

Dörte Engel thank you for the input! Glad to see people engaging with the topic

Feb 13, 2017 07:55 PM

Cody Carmen

Hi, thanks for commenting! I don't think people are surprised women can handle homeownership. I think people may be surprised by how many single people in general are buying and that more of these people are women than men

Feb 13, 2017 07:57 PM

Marte Cliff could not agree more. An agent cannot know upon meeting someone if they are a serious buyer/seller or not. But assuming based on marital status is clearly not a good route

Feb 13, 2017 09:51 PM

Cody Carmen

Thank you Kimo Jarrett. It is definitely a challenge, but one worth tackling

Feb 13, 2017 09:50 PM

Praful Thakkar I thought the age data was very interesting as well.

Rose Mary Justice the economic incentives are absolutely undeniable

Feb 14, 2017 04:16 PM

Donna & Larry Johnson I liked that part about many different reasons. It is important to understand different motivations for buyers in all different demographic groups

And thank you for your comment Ron Aguilar, happy to be of service

Feb 14, 2017 04:17 PM

Mary Hutchison, SRES, ABR I absolutely believe that! Lifestyles change and so do buying decisions

Feb 14, 2017 04:18 PM

Cheryl Dukes - Atlanta absolutely! The statistics do not lie

Feb 14, 2017 04:18 PM

Cody Carmen

Mike Bjork I haven't seen a stat on how many of the 50+ single women are first time buyers. I suspect that a good number of them (although no idea if this would be a statistical majority) are first time solo buyers as many may have purchased homes with a spouse or partner in the past. But you had a good thought on young single first time buyers as the stats show that it is another large (albeit smaller) demographic

Feb 14, 2017 04:20 PM

Cody Carmen

Anna Hatridge absolutely, I agree. Might be the encouragement to someone unsure if they are ready.

Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi I have definitely heard similar things from other people. Perhaps the sole responsibility (as opposed to the shared responsiblity of couples purchasing a home) both forces people to be more engaged and only attracts those more likely to be engaged?
