mortgage news: FHA Lowers Annual Premium 25 bps! - 01/09/17 10:16 AM
Great News!
The FHA announced this morning that it is lowering the annual premium 25 bps.  It is effective for loans with a closing or disbursement date on or after January 27th, 2017.  By making the change effective for loans closed instead of case numbers assigned, it eliminates a lot of the confusion caused in 2015 when premiums were last reduced. Here is a chart showing the current and new rates effective in a couple weeks.
This reflects the stability and reserves that have been established in the FHAs mortgage insurance fund. This could move interest slightly higher on government loans.

We could have a rocky end of the year, be cautious!
Ben Bernanke’s final Fed Meeting and the last meeting of 2013 ends this afternoon with the monetary policy statement being released at 2:00pm ET.  There is zero possibility of a hike in the short term Fed Funds Rate, but the big question is whether or not the members will vote on to taper or not to taper this month. 
We still feel that tapering will begin sometime in the first quarter of 2014, but there is always a possibility that it could take place sooner rather than later.  One wild card … (2 comments)
