retirement: Log Homes for Sale in NC Piedmont Triad area - 11/09/19 10:24 AM
We had just returned from North Carolina a few weeks ago and the discussion began about retirement.  I am not ready to retire as of yet although a vacation home there has crossed my mind. Problem is I like both its mountains and the Outer Banks, more specifically Hatteras.  I've been throughout the Carolinas since my teens so the transition there would be easy.  Angela Lawrence has pieced together more favorites of Log Homes available in her market area and I hope to gather some input from each.  The location adapts well to this comfortable and welcoming style of home but … (5 comments)

retirement: Going the Distance Makes the Move From #2 to #1 a Snap & Only 172 Miles Apart - 07/07/14 02:26 AM
What an excellent feeling it is to see affirmation that you're moving in the right direction.  Yesterday I read about The 10 Most Affordable Beachside Towns.  This set me to find out where and when such lists originated.  The results are sketchy but I've contacted "Chairman" Issa to form a committee and hopefully we can get to the bottom of it.  If you mention "Top 10's" to anyone they'll probably defer to David Letterman's "Late Night" as the originator but apparently his was created in response to PEOPLE Magazine's listing expertise of "The World's Sexiest Man" circa 1984.  Do you know … (6 comments)

retirement: The Beazer Homes / ActiveRain Challenge: What is Your Idea of the Perfect Home? - 06/24/14 01:27 AM
When I first read the details of this challenge I had high hopes of seeing a Beazer Home in person to better visualize my dream.  The closest communities I found were about 3 hours away and another just over 4 hours from home.  At some point this summer I will be quite near the latter one and check up on the quality there.
Because this is a cooperative effort I chose the "Rainer" model for obvious reasons.  Our CHOICE PLAN is always going to be from option "B" with the enlarged owner's suite to accomodate my 1st want, a sauna.  We're not … (4 comments)

retirement: Supply & Demand in Naples, FL - Retirement Will Be Here in 34 Months - 07/06/13 02:41 AM
A lot of us subscribe to the philosophy of "REALTOR for Life" although it's understanding may be due for a change.  Originally conceived as way of providing superior service to your customers which leads them to never seek any other resource for their Real Estate needs.  In fact, you are so excellent in your endeavor that they tell family and friends all about your performance and they too become enthralled with your allegiance and unwavering dedication to their Realty needs.  Soon you have amassed an army of customers ready to conquer sales and purchases from village to towns to cities to towhships, … (4 comments)

retirement: An 80 Year Mortgage ~ A New Plan for the Golden Years - 11/08/12 08:09 AM
This phrase keeps ringing through my ears of late.  Pay a little more now and we'll get out of debt sooner.  At the rates we look at today who wants to be out of debt.  It's borrow, borrow, borrowing time my friends.  Here's my suggestion for those that know exactly what they want in a home.
You couldn't even begin to consider this unless the rates weren't where they are today.  Add to that the unheard of prices we see out there.  The problem facing Buyers today is qualifying for their mortgage, not that they can't afford it it's just … (4 comments)

retirement: Remember When Kids Asked Their Parents Opinion About Home Buying? - 11/02/12 02:43 AM
I shall begin with a Mark Twain quote:  "When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years."
There are new challenges facing our family life in America.  How long these challenges last is totally up to us and how we respond.  Nearly 20% of the households in the United States today are seeing children return to the nest due to our economy.  Generally we see 21 to 34 year olds … (2 comments)

retirement: Just When You Think Your Ship's Coming in Somehow it Vanishes. - 12/29/09 06:24 PM
What the heck is going on?  Is Johnny Depp out there attempting to ruin my retirement dreams?
This post has nothing to do with the Sea Sagas of Somalia.  That is another story in itself.  This one has both a positive and negative twist and is much closer to home at least for the time being.
Surely you've witnessed many former associates and friends in housing affiliated businesses succumb to one of the worst economies of our generation.  Sadly, my plans are now displaced, through no fault of my own, to even consider any form of retirement in the near … (0 comments)
