Mortgage borrowers may now qualify for an FHA mortgage under new guidelines established by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), according to Eli Younes of Viking Realty Group in Pembroke Pines on Tuesday.
As a result of the housing collapse, many homeowners experienced a serious reduction in income or lost their jobs due to the crumbling economy.   Some mortgage borrowers were forced to file bankruptcy or short sale their home to avoid foreclosure.
Others were not so lucky and lost their home on the courthouse steps.
The new HUD rules allow borrowers whose credit was damaged due to a … (5 comments)

foreclosure: Few apply for foreclosure assistance money - 04/29/11 11:38 PM
The opportunity to receive up to $12,000 in financial assistance to avoid foreclosure has not been much of a success in Florida.
Florida is one of five states hit hardest by the foreclosure epidemic. Notwithstanding attorney general investigations into alleged foreclosure mills, the demise of attorney David J. Stern and the temporary slowdown of foreclosure filings, there are still thousands of Floridians in danger of losing their home.
Designed to assist approximately 40,000 homeowners, only 9,439 applications were submitted in the first week of the state's Florida Hardest-Hit Fund $1 billion mortgage-assistance program. This is a comparatively low turnout compared with … (1 comments)

Being homeless or having lost your home through foreclosure does not prevent you from voting, said Dr. Brenda C. Snipes, Supervisor of Elections for Broward County.
With the nation's third-highest foreclosure rate, many Floridians have addresses that do not match their voter registrations.  Among large metropolitan areas, South Florida led the nation with the highest number of foreclosure filings - more than 59,064 homes in distress - for the third quarter of 2010.  This is a 24 percent increase from the previous quarter, and a 9 percent jump from the same period in 2009.

foreclosure: US Supreme Court Rules Against Debt Collector - 04/25/10 01:49 AM
Debt collectors can no longer claim ignorance of the law as an excuse for violating the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA) while attempting to collect a debt.
On Wednesday, the United States Supreme Court handed down a ruling that severely restricts the "bona fide error" defense under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act for debt collectors that send erroneous collection notices.
In a 7-2 ruling, the high court ruled that collection law firms could not use misinterpretations of the law in a "bona fide error" defense under the FDCPA.

foreclosure: Strategic Foreclosure 101 - Walking Away from Your Home - 03/14/10 08:28 PM
Many Americans are wondering how to deal with an underwater mortgage in these tough economic times.  Florida has been hit harder by the housing crisis than any other state in the nation. While some can afford to continue making payments on their home, many across the state have been pushed into foreclosure as home values have decreased anywhere from 15 to 55 percent or more.
Aside from a loan modification, we have all heard the terms foreclosure, short-sale, and deed-in-lieu of foreclosure. Each of these terms spells trouble for the homeowner - loss of home, reduced credit score, and negative social … (0 comments)
